Eskom is just a vehicle for them to steal more, like state capture, R200k brooms are just Estinas with fewer Guptas. The last okes who cared about power generation, capacity, maintenance & sustainability was forced out when they established their BEE flagship. Previous regime knew they needed a strong independent economy to survive in Africa, current lot just have to steal enough WMC. Same mentality permeates everywhere, from politicians to board members to workers. They carry away railway stations brick by brick since their ideology keeps them poor, ie. doesn't equip them to generate wealth, so they take it from wherever they can get it. Elite survives, rest suffers, it is the way..

I will get a decades old car that's reaching the end of its life, drive it into the ground, and give it to a desperate delivery driver who doesn't have the time to maintain it. End result it will break down regularly.

This is exactly what's happened with Eskom, except it's made worse by corruption and theft within the organization. The only way for these people to "do their job" is to clear out the unnecessary and corrupt employees (difficult at best), and get extra capacity online so they can completely shut down the units for maintenance (also a pipe dream at the rate the ANC govt moves) as opposed to doing ad-hoc maintenance to keep things barely running.

The reality is that no individuals will be able to fix this while there's an ANC govt in charge.

Yup I mean I've got projects over running that execs don't understand why as well. It's like well you see these things called chips couldn't get made fast enough and the servers our systems run on require those chips, so instead of them arriving in April of 2021 they came in October 2021 and in dribs and drabs.
