Not quite, but close. Coal is around 26c/kWh ave. Nuclear fuel around 8c.
Citation needed.

Various sources I read say 42c for raw coal "Eskom’s average cost of buying coal in the past financial year was 42c/kWh"

See https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/art...outh-africas-recent-renewable-energy-auction/
The bid window 5 results announcement signals a renewed commitment. Prices of awarded projects are extremely competitive — as low as 34.4c/kWh (about $0.02) for onshore wind and 37.4c/kWh for solar PV. The average price for projects in the previous bid window was R1.03/kWh (about $0.07) in April 2021 terms. The prices are now competitive with Eskom’s average cost of buying coal in the past financial year: 42c/kWh. And, of course, Eskom has the additional cost of running coal plants.

Thus, it is now theoretically cheaper for Eskom to buy renewable energy from independent power producers than to run its more expensive coal power stations.

My geyser is still rated in pounds....Got those 110V ceramic elements in . Still working as was bought. Yes Sure new ones are a little more efficient. But quality is a bit on the Low side.
What people also don't realise is that scale forms inside a geyser, producing what I call "corn flakes" which leads to further inefficiencies

I think thick curtains is fine. Mainly in the ceiling I'm talking about.

We have a blind and curtains with black out in our sons room, the ceiling has 150mm of insulation above his room, the living area of the house only has 50mm of ceiling insulation which is next on the list to sort out.

I don't see how Eskom can justify this. Most of us know that we are being taken for a ride. Why do they want more increases?? Eskom staff are beyond incompetent. An investigation should be carried out to weed out the wrongfully appointed people. The whole recruitment process is a joke. Managers still know who they want to appoint regardless of experience. I have 1st hand experience of this. I was the only person who met all the requirements for a certain position and I still did not get it. HR called me to say I was unsuccessful. When I enquired the manager told me they already earmarked the position for someone in their own department even though she did not meet the requirements.

It's amazing how nothing can go right in SA. It seems like to get a job in Government or a parastatal the prerequisite is you have to be incompetent, unwilling to give it your all and willing to take the fat salary with nice benefits without feeling guilty.

Perhaps I should change my CV to make myself look useless so that I can get a nice cushy job doing less than the bare minimum for great reward.

There is no stock of Hubble batteries anywhere. And the stock has an ETA in the middle of December.
True.
I had a brief conversation with Steve from the Powerforumstore last night, he indicated that since load shedding, and now this Eskom price increase application, requests for quotations and consultations have increased 500%. It's not only home installs, quite a few businesses as well, and some of them are huge, just one order wipes out all of Hubble's available stock. Consumers are finally beginning to see the writing on the wall, and prices today are not exactly cheap due to the high demand for solar panels in China, and the weak rand. In SA we basically get the scraps that have fallen off the table.

I realise (with hindsight) that I was amongst those fortunate enough to climb in when I did.

There was a brief time after my install that prices dropped and I could have done my install for 25% less had I waited.

I think it's back to the same price level now if not more expensive than when I did mine.

I doubt that's accurate. Perhaps they meant 42c/kg because based on Eskoms figures:

R70Billion for coal and 130Mt per year is 53.8c per kg.

A Coal plant produces roughly 2kWh per kg of coal, so that's 26c/kWh.
Yep, based on Eskom's figures, a wooden broom costs R238,000

R70 000 000 000 divide 130 000kg = R538 461,54 per kg.

Just one more thing to keep in mind...

...and that is if they manage to push this Karpowership thievery into action, and it actually happen, we can expect the price to go up some more....

Death spiral indeed.

Try mention that under De Ruyter Eskom is worse, which is true according to all the stats. Maintenance is worse, the company wants to hike rates up more, all to help De Ruyter, but honestly he is crap. Just because he is white doesnt make him better. People thought the same of many others, who turned out rubbish.

I say its time we get rid of De Ruyter, he hasnt done anything to improve things with Eskom in all honesty.

Stop hiking prices while you provide free electricity. Cut the free electricity and charge all. Also no forgiving municipalities of debt, then asking the tax payer to pay more. Shove it where the sun dont sign.

Everyone needs to pay. No discounts to large users, no bailing or forgiving debt, etc. They can pull that money from social services.

Yeah no dude. De Ruyter needs to stay on. He is the only hope Eskom has at the moment and by extension, South Africa.

Yeah, that is simply not true, despite the current Eskom electricity supply mess.

But they will first import some more Cuban engineers at inflated cost.
