Big win in Eskom's fight against load-shedding

Eskom head of generation Bheki Nxumalo says the state-owned power utility's decision to fix its generating fleet is paying off and saved the entity a lot of money.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Nxumalo said capacity losses had fallen below 9,000MW, and power stations like Medupi and Kusile are performing exceptionally well.

Look, I will give some credit to them. Somehow they appear to have stopped the sabotage (unsure if they have reduced procurement corruption too) which I guess is helping the current fleet at least keep the lights on even if it is reduced due to the population self generating capacity increasing

Finally it looks like the fish can swim. Give credit even if it’s for the basics. A lot of naysayers are up in arms now looking for ‘what about’

They have, rooftop solar doesn't effect capacity.

Fair enough. I gave them until December to prove their worth and we're approaching half way there. I'll eat humble pie if we make it to year end being free of load shedding.

Still plan on escaping their clutches as much as is practically possible though.

i think we will be load shedding free rest of the year, by the way it is going now
imo we would have to see how they perform if we peak near 100% of capacity

a pressur test if you like
the peak for july is normally around 34/35
peak this year around 30

imo it may simply be that since we are asking less of them they aren't falling over
and with more and more people installing solar and savings a topic that can come up
more will take the dive especially if prices stay reasonable

is it a victory foreskom that they are coping yes and no
yes cause the diesel bill is lower

they better hope they can keep shedding at bay
cause another mass wave of solar instatalations will hit way harder

the less demand may look good in the balance sheet compared to previous years with hefty diesel bills
but evey scenario like that has a tipping point where it goes bad again

time will tell

Yeah, I reserve judgement until after Dec.

explain to me what changed? why wasnt this possible earlier during stage 6?
Eskom looks like the biggest bunch of incompatant idiots this side of a clown show,

they could keep the lights on perfectly well all this time, so what was the load shedding and wet coal and sabotage and excuses for then?
