Eskom going after whistleblowers who exposed R250 million security contract

Eskom wants to expose the whistleblowers who revealed information about the alleged R500 million security contract awarded to Fidelity Services Group under the power utility's now-suspended head of security, Karen Pillay.

City Press reports that Eskom contracted a forensic audit firm to investigate allegations against Pillay. According to Fidelity, the contract amounted to R250 million — not R500 million.

Egotistical idiots. Amaaaandla... oh oops no power for you

Typical! To ashamed for the truth to come out
If it is found that there was nothing untoward about the contract then it doesn't sound very unfair to assume that there is a possibility that the whistleblowers had malicious intentions, and that shoukd be investigated.

A popular narrative is that all whistleblowers have noble intentions, but that is not always the truth, someone can be aggrieved that their friend did not get the tender and start a false rumour about it to discredit Eskom as well as the company that got the tender.

But I guess we will soon find out if there are valid metis to the whistleblower's accusations, the SIU is on the case.

Whisleblowers should be protected. It is up to the SIU to put together a case and raise charges. They need to investigate the merits of the whistleblowing. If its false, nothing should proceed. Start prosecuting whistleblowers and you won't get any.

Not the same thing as someone disclosing a public statement and it turns out false, that's defamation.

Andre tried to warn us, and look what it got him, people forget so quickly,
Whistleblowers should be protected and hailed for their bravery, but instead Eskom punishes them.

as how will Eskom Eat?

No "case should be put together", the allegations should be investigated and if there is a case it will soon become apparent, if there is no case, there is no case, it won't be the SIUs fault.

If the allegations turn out to be false, Eskom is within it's right as an employer to investigate if there was any malicious intent, if it is found that the whistleblowers acted with malice in making the false accusations they should be dealt with, simple as that, otherwise we are saying it's open season for everyone to make deliberately false accusations under the cover of whistleblowing.

Eskom as a company and a brand has got the right to protect it's image just like any other corporate. It's one thing to genuinely believe something to be the truth and whistleblow on it and it's totally a different thing to have a deliberate malicious agenda that you pursue under the cover of whistleblowing, it is Eskom we are talking about, both situations can occur.

If the whistle-blower reported it to the right body and it was investigated, even if there was malicious intent, how did any harm occur? The only way harm would occur is if the details of the report were used or a investigation badly executed. A whistle-blower report is unfounded until investigated and proven. The reporting body can investigate malicious intent but not the accused as that will harm the entire concept.

This is as close to the head of the corruption snake they are ever going to get, they need to start interrogating all those involved with this security contract and they will reveal all

I doubt it as I reckon it will lead into the upper reaches of the pile of **** that is the ANC. Like the Zondo revelations there will be a flurry of small crooks "arrested" and "prosecuted", most unsuccessfully the higher they are (Ace). Top sh1tflies will buzz on, stealing as they go.

Yes. All whistleblowers must be identified and dealt with.

If there is one thing ANC filth hate, it’s a impimpi. Kill the impimpi!

Why would you want whistleblowers to be caught? That is just stupid and insane.

I'd prefer actual criminals are caught whoever they may be.
