Eskom investigates cause of fire at Kusile Power Station

Eskom says its investigating the cause of the fire which broke out at its Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga.

It’s understood some infrastructure was damaged by the fire at the fabric filter plant.

The power utility says the extent of the damage will still be assessed.

No injuries were reported.

Eskom spokesperson Dikatso Mothae said, “There was a fire yesterday that was extinguished, and no incidents were reported. the matter is being investigated.”

The fabric filter, or often referred to as the bag house, is on the back end of the boilers to extract particulate - the risk of fires in the bag house are mitigated with boiler outlet gas temperature control and boiler firing interlocks that ensure un-burnt fuel such as pulverised coal is never carried over into the bag house.

Wonder if we'll ever know the real cause, but to me it looks like incompetence.
