Eskom is in a crisis

It is not only Eskom’s generation capacity which is in shambles. Its finances are in an even worse state.
Government now has even less room to sort out those finances thanks to COVID and the lockdowns destroying the economy. So suppose it gets closer and closer to them dipping into pension funds. The logical choice would be to accelerate a move a way from relying on Eskom but the ANC are determined energy supply needs to reside with the state. And with a self confessed Marxist heading up energy there's even less chance they'll make a sensible decision.

They are hereby free of the evils of capitalism. Eskom is a proud example of socialism for everyone to observe. We pay sky high costs for a product that is rationed. And the state has made it illegal for anyone else to compete with them.

But hey, at least we don't have the evils of capitalism.

Everything the ANC touches is in crisis.

Bunch of thieves cannot run ****.

Vrot trees bearing vrot fruit.

What a joke.

Yes, but will everyone pay close attention to this prime example of socialism in action ???

We have had rolling blackouts since 2007, that's 13 years, nothing will change until the theives/terrorists are removed from power...

Which is quite funny when you think about it we have no power cause the thieves are in power.

They shouldn't waste our time with these timelines. As with most of Africa, loadshedding is the new norm. They cannot and will not fix Eskom and it will continue to get worse and worse.
That part is almost unimportant now. Other African countries have limped along with patchy power for decades.

...better question is how do you prevent this from blowing up the entire SA budget. Eskom selling less & less and more & more people going offgrid is not a recipe for catching this decline so that nearly half a trillion debt is a ticking timebomb

My money is on harsh penalties for anyone going off-grid.

So it is illegal for anyone other than Eksdom to produce and sell electricity. Independents can produce and sell to Eksdom, but not directly to the public. I believe that this is legislated. My question is, would a constitutional court challenge to that legislation be successful? Challenging the monopoly aspect of it on the basis of Eksdom having a mandate to provide electricity but not fulfilling that mandate and therefore the public and companies should be allowed to do whatever they want to generate their own, up to and including setting up their own private electricity generation company.
