Eskom running out of diesel — warns of worse load-shedding

Eskom is implementing Stage 3 load-shedding between 17:00 and 22:00 on Monday and Tuesday, 16 and 17 May, and it could be upped to Stage 4 to manage Eskom's diesel reserves.

The power utility's COO, Jan Oberholzer, explained that Eskom is burning a lot of diesel in its open-cycle gas turbines (OCGTs) — around two million litres a day — and its next delivery will only arrive on 24 May.

So if 2000MW is returning to the grid today*, that's effectively 2 stages of LS.

*Assuming nothing else breaks down, but even then, Eskom should be in a net positive situation.

So what has De Ruyter fixed? It sounds far worse than before his time. More loadshedding, more breakages, more outtages.

Hmm somehow it sounds like he is doing a far worse job than his predecessor.

Oh and millions of litres of fuel is being stolen, same with billions of rands of parts, and he is unaware of this.

So what is he aware of? He hasnt fixed anything, he just made it worse. He is just more vocal about it.

Who cares, they are building coal power stations. Do you think they honestly care about you having good air quality?

As a Capetonian I remember the first time I drove from Joburg to Nelspruit. Quite a shock to see that people have to live with that constant cover of coal smoke hanging in the air everywhere.

This, it bothers me DEEPLY that no journalists are making noise on this, this cannot be normal and is by no means sustainable.

I mean to me this is the biggest red flag, plow the country deeper into debt, to keep the lights on and refuse private companies to step in. That has to be some kind of a crime? / fraud.

Idiots that think burning that much diesel per day, is sustainable.
