Eskom warning — change, or get punished

Approximately 80% of electricity generated by Eskom comes from coal, which places South Africa at huge risk in a world that is transitioning to cleaner technologies to mitigate climate change.

This is feedback from energy expert Chris Yelland, who warned, “if we do not change, we will be punished”.

Apart from the environmental impact of using coal-fired power stations, it also costs the country more to generate electricity.

Coal and nuclear used to be the cheapest methods to generate base-load power, but this is no longer the case.

fusion, if we ever get round to perfecting it, that's the best.

problem is south Africa is becoming 3rd world backwater, where most of the smart people have left to go elsewhere.
so yes, we will still be riding dinosaurs, while the rest of the world has mastered teleportation.

solution, solar, if we can build those fast enough, and existing technologies OTHER than nuclear, that wont be constructed safely/Cost effectively here.

the ship to catch up to the rest of the world, has sailed long ago, sadly there isn't much we can do about that, unless there is another "revolution/secession"

So we have an expert that doesn't understand grid inertia and, he also doesn't seem to realize that, unlike Germany, we have no France across the border. We also don't have an abundance of resources for hydro.

“In fact, coal and nuclear are now the most expensive,” Yelland said.

You can see they are a tax loving shill. Without carbon credits, solar and wind are unimaginably expensive.

Solar & wind power for the short term, then once needs are met we can think of building a massive nuclear facility. Battery energy storage would certainly be needed as well.

If we build a nuclear power station it needs to have a proper, proven design. No BEE nonsense either (like that would ever happen...) as nuclear expertise should not be race limited.

Other alternative power generation should be investigated as well (so Eskom should have a lab somewhere where they investigate sustainable methods of power generation)

I would agree with hydro being cheaper but not wind or solar.

The maintenance on solar and wind must be high with the former always requiring to be cleaned to maintain efficiency and the latter undergoing regular repairs.

The government is run by outdated policies that clearly does not work, like socialism etc. Please change that and we will be cooking!

Well, its easier said than done. I feel already punished since 1992 around.
1-Excessive Tax punishes me.
2-Excessive Vat punishes me.
3-Excessive Admin & Willy Nilly costs punishes me.
4-Local Authority is punishing me with more Levies and Tax.
5-Water cost is punishing me.
6-Electricity costs is punishing me.
7-Fuel cost is punishing me.
8-My vehicle is punishing me.
9-My Health costs are killing me.

Now this is already allowed to happen worldwide, so get ready for way more punishment as a result of more change build from this not sustainable base.

So the answer is to understand and get rid of modern world corruption, then build a clean non parasitic future, you will feel the relief clearly. A house build on sand is never stable.
