Not really hey. At least 95% of South Africa's population can afford the increase. There are no problems. As for the remainder, most will just stop repaying debt. No more repayments on credit cards, bank loans, clothing accounts.

Eskom price hike puts South Africa on edge

Eskom's latest price hikes are lining up South Africans for a big fall.
And? What are you as a influential mainstream-media outlet doing about protesting against this? I don't see you throwing your support behind those who are trying to fight against these ridiculous increases, giving them the mainstream airtime they need to get their message out.

"More than half of South Africa’s credit-active consumers are over-indebted, a new report by Genesis Analytics and the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) shows."

They have already stopped repaying debt. Only way out is not to give credit to people anymore, this will make people learn to save cash and work their finances better.

I agree with you. However people can't live anymore. You can only cut so much. I think the percentage of those who borrow out of desperation might have increased, just to buy the nacessities.
