Eskom price hikes are necessary - Gigaba

Lets say you pay R1000 a month?

So it's gonna be:

1. 1000 x 1.16
2. 1160 x 1.16
3. 1345 x 1.16
4. 1560 x 1.16
5. 1810

That's just way too much.

It'll be much more than that.
Don't forget all the crap added on by the Municipalities, and you can bet your ass they're not going to keep their percentage cuts (a.k.a. stolen money) at the same rates.

What I dont get is that the bosses are paid billions in bonuses, if they were to take a salary cut instead and help fund the process it might be more fare but currently this just does not seem right!

Eskom's current price is R0.61 per kwh, but City of Joburg charges from R0.89 per kwh. Why such a ridonculous mark up? Subsidising theft, incompetence and corruption

We're in for a world of hurt in the next few years.
With stuff like the e-tolling we still have a choice, but the middle class is way too s*** scared to risk being left in the dark for non-payment to Eskom.
The ANC will keep milking us until we all stand up, and I don't see that happening.

I live alone, use a PC, TV and two energy saver lights at most and I'm already paying R700PM on average. That shoots up to R1K during winter time and I don't even use electric heating. That's about as much as my ridiculously overpriced 4Mb ADSL connection costs per month, all this in a country that has its own coal reserves etc.

Eventually the barrel will break, because it can only take so much. I shudder to think whats gonna happen then!

That worries me too - far more than the immediate impact on my pocket.

You should be planning for that day, like zuma, you should pillage from others and build yourself a new country within a country.

As said by Boris, Eskoms electricity price is very reasonable. It's the municipality Scum that somehow add up to 100% markup to do very little. In Stellenbosch I pay R1.41kw/h! The issue of the municipalities markup should be the main source of news. They do not need to increase prices 16% each year. A 16% increase on the 61c is 71c which isn't such a big impact but the municipalities will feel that they too can add their 16% on R1.40!

Gigaba said the poor needed to continue to be shielded. They would be charged a single-digit flat rate determined by municipalities.

At the rate they are increasing, i want to apply as 1 of the above, thank you.

Spoke to a friend - for the same scenario in Claremont, Cape Town he paid R145.00 last month.

Eina, f*k...

Yup, some months up to 2,800.

Main reasons:

a) Sprinkler pressure pump of 750w which runs about 3 hours per day (pressure is so piss poor sprinklers don't even come out the ground so have to push up the pressure with a pump)

b) Pool pump of 750w running around 6 hrs a day,

c) Koi dam with 1,000w and 750w pumps, 55w UV light and 250w air pump - all running 24/7

Above adds on around R800 to R1,000 a month, then the normal house hold stuff on top of all that.... :D

Exactly! F***ing pi**es me off so much I can't even stand to think about it.
The problem is that it doesn't matter how much electricity I use, I end up paying for the entire block of flats for the average they consume anyway. Replaced all my light bulbs, even started going solar on some stuff but ended up just wasting my money.

Dear Gigaba

Let us cut to the chase, shall we?

Most of us South Africans have cut out some luxuries and other expensive items from our lives in order to be able to afford electricity, water and food.

If we did cut out most fat, then surely you guys can also do the same by cutting out bonuses, perks and parties?

This is your call.

Continue to rape the consumer, and you WILL see fireworks, and it won't be pretty.

Thank you for your time.
