Speaking of which. Saw in my local newspaper yesterday that we are getting rates increases here in the cape. Basically everything is going up 11%, including water, sewerage, refuse removal, etc... the whole effing lot.
It's around 10c extra per unit (kWh). Hardly going to force most people into bankruptcy. Calm down.
The proposed increases are 10.83 percent for property rates, 8.33 percent for refuse removals and 11 percent for both water and sanitation. Electricity tariff increases will be even higher but this depends on a pending decision by NERSA on Eskom’s latest application for a further tariff increase.

To all the people complaining about my comment of it only being 10c - if R50 to R80 extra a month will put you into bankruptcy, then you have huge money problems and shouldn't be wasting your time on the internet ..

Instead of increasing rates by 25%, why not cut costs by 25%?
How about:
Using non-BEE coal
Stop paying huge bonuses to execs
Get a cheaper catering contract
Lots of murmurs about the contracted diesel price to Eskom as well.
Ankerlig and Gourikwa use over 600 000L per HOUR between the 2 of them.
Nice little money spinner if you get in with a diesel contract for a piece of that pie.
