Eskom Projection for 2025 and beyond

This is good news - is there any truth to stuff I heard on the radio that they've been burning extra diesel during December to stave off LS?

Nope, they've been doing a lot of maintenance and still haven't needed to burn diesel

I am appreciating every day just how averse South Africans are to facts, you would think at the very least if you are a hopeless negative nancy the least you can do is base your negativity on facts, instead of made up stories.

Who on the radio? The dumb dj or some karen calling in?

Last 7 days (no diesel used as per the red colour):

Must be my hemorrhoid acting up again but I have this strange feeling that we have more power because the mining sector took another casualty this past December. People next door had gas stove installed and said their solar is happening early next month. Eskom is about to learn that Load shedding killed a lot of businesses.

Global coal demand is set to plateau through 2027

So when does it appear on their data? Does it still have to enter "commercial service" or what?

Is it March 2025 that we are going to see n increase of 12.74%? How much does one unit power cost to generate with solar/generator because if the sun is missing like it has been for the last couple of days I guess a generator must charge the batteries.

That was last year. If you're not on the grid and need to top up, yeah you'll need the generator.
6.7 units last month were from my generator

No, I know that unit 1 is not complete because eskom is incompetent and needs to be taken offline to complete the work that should have been done in the first place as per mybb article I read a while back but too lazy to look up.

Just to humour you, I read the article and it mentions nothing which just reinforces the reason why I didn't read this srticle in the first place, our stellar levels of journalism in this country. If it was the high level I demand, they should have mentioned unit 1 in this article which they didn't.

What do you mean that the article doesn't mention unit 1? Are you sure that you're reading the right thing?

From the article:

Koeberg Unit 1 was synchronised to the grid following similar work in November 2023. It subsequently secured an extension of its operational licence in July 2024. It can continue to operate until 2044.

The article you read 'a while back' appears to have become outdated. It's good to keep up to date with things.

Doesn’t change the fact that there is still more work that is needed on unit 1 which has not happened yet. Are you telling me unit 1 is not going offline soon?

The latest info on unit 1 that I can find is from September. There was a failure in a routine test. No recent info regarding it going offline soon.

May I ask for a source for your assertion that it has to go offline?

"Eskom later confirmed that it would continue to operate the 930 MW unit until January 2025, when the it would be shut down for its next scheduled refuelling and maintenance outage."

Thank you. That quote refers to scheduled refueling and maintenence though. Emphasis on scheduled. This is different to what the other commenter is implying which is that it is not ready for routine use and needs to go offline in order to prepare it.

Yeah they take it down to refuel it, it generally takes about 3 to 4 months, they'll also be doing a pressure test.
It's been running for almost 400 days

If @Lupus won't back me up then my memory must be playing tricks on me. I tried making the effort in looking for the article but I couldn't find it.
