And then who exactly is doing to be doing the job? You won’t get skilled replacement staff overnight you know. The trained staff literally has the upper hand.
Inflation is tough. Their increase is essentially only an inflation adjustment. Nothing out of this world.
Are you implying that the are actually doing work?

Last time I checked the wage bill was larger than ever and we are generating less electricity.

And they should. So should you. Your salary should adjust for inflation. If it doesn’t you’re essentially making less each year.
Destroying our economy will also destroy your income in the long run.

Eskom offers workers 7% increase — Report

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. is offering workers a 7% wage increase, after the utility lost units during illegal protests that plunged South Africa into the worst blackouts since 2019, according to people familiar with the information.

The offer is for one year, said the people who asked not to be identified because the information is not public.
So hang on. If I want an increase I should just start switching and/or deleting items within my employment's azure sub?

Asking for a raise won’t destroy the economy. Your company just needs to become more productive to ensure your salary increase as well as everyone else’s can be paid.

Good thing you are confirming that inflation exists. Of course it is larger than ever. Literally everything in this country is more expensive than ever - or have you recently purchased a Coke for 25c? Of course you haven’t.

Those power plants don’t run themselves you know. No matter how unjustifiable you may think it is to pay staff a decent wage for they work the truth is that last week there was no stage 6 load shedding because the staff was….at work….working….doing their job to make sure things run smoothly (as smooth as they can given the current situation).

I’m happy you’re not in charge of decisions like this or we’d all be back in the Middle Ages.

Nope.... They have been at work sabotaging the electricity supply for a couple of weeks now...
They are overpaid... They earn more than what they should be earning according to the studies, so they should not be getting any increases...

no one said anything about inflation.

- I was referring to the increased amount of staff needed to generate the same (or as we experiencing now) LESS electricity.

Increases MUST be tied to performance.

I suggest the formula based on Energy Availability Factor (EAF) and budget:
(EAF - 72% ) * (100% +/- Budget Savings%/Budget Overrun%)
for the total increase pool distributed proportionally.

If they can get EAF to 85% (government target) and within budget (e.g. 0% overrun) they can happily get 13%. If they keep mucking about they should get 0%.

Public servants have not received any increases since 2019. Yet we work everyday, and we are not allowed to strike.
What nonsense is this??
Not fair I agree.
You may strike; it's your right.
What's not a right is an illegal, violent strike. That just makes those workers criminals and they deserve to face the (negative) consequences.

It's also called economics.

If 50% of your staff are useless and you get rid of them, you can pay the other 50% of them double, without increasing costs, yet much improved efficiency.

That requires logic and thinking and all that... can't have that.

Can't you even afford a box of matches or what?

Did you know 1700 schools were burned, looted or vandalized during 2021 lockdown?
