Eskom says zero buyers can update their prepaid meters after 24 November

I get around 12.5 Units for R50. Something about Historical Debt or whatever. I owed the Muni >R150k in postpaid debt before I converted to prepaid. Had to give the guys 'cooldrink' when they came to cut me off :D
If blacks can buy land from the chief and then live rates/taxes free, why can't whites do that also?

My meter shows KRN 1. I tried to input AGAIN now, the KRN revision codes I received and already input in May. It says "token rejected". Could you spell out what happens to my meter after 24 November?

Why did you sleep on this? You should have done this last year.

The land was given to the Chiefs much like Durban was given to the whites by King Shaka.

To the British, not the whites. It was given to the Brits but they would have taken it anyway given the British empire.

Good news for prepaid electricity meter updates — but there's a catch

Eskom says it has finalised a technical breakthrough allowing zero buyers to update their prepaid electricity meters after the 24 November 2024 deadline.

This was announced in a statement on Friday, 22 November. For reference, "zero buyer" is the term Eskom uses to describe someone who consumes electricity without purchasing it.

The headline reads:

Eskom says zero buyers can update their prepaid meters after 24 November

Which is an awkward way of saying:

Eskom says no buyers can update their prepaid meters after 24 November

You should be okay if they upgraded it. At some point you would have received 3 codes if they didn't upgrade it for you. Also token slip shows 2, so you good.
Thanks and I suppose for good measure I should buy some new units on Sunday the 24th or Monday the 25th and try loading them, if it works then I'm all good.

This crowd is do incompetent - it is a toss up, what is going to happen.

Got my 3 "keys" entered them. Use the code they give to check if your device has been updated.

My device says not.

Letter from loval idiots say meters starting with my first 3cdigitd are okay.

Maar wait and see what sort of a schitt show materializes

In the EXACT same boat. Centlec says on their website don't worry. But when I speak to a human on their WhatsApp line, the human says my meter needs replacing. Says I may be liable for new meter costs. R12K (R11,xxx to be exact). Paid upfront in full before new meter is ordered.

Their meter, they want to sell me electricity - they replace it at their cost, not mine.

That's a ripoff as 10% of the money towards the electricity you buy goes to them.

Maybe this whole thing was a scam just to get "zero buyers" to connect again.

Don't think, it is a straight out scam, the meters I believe do need to be upgraded. But, I don't know that the back end us properly setup and thus the problems of the 10 different versions of stories in circulation. And of course the opportunistic Cadres, see an opportunity to flood their pockets with a windfall.

As logical as your statement is, this is Africa. Unfortunately it doesn't work logically here. They won't even credit me for the kwh left on my old meter.
