Technical point: All of the battery stations are very far from Eskom primary electricity generation plants. This is justified because transmission losses over those distances are high, and having backup power close to users increases efficiency.

Nobody worried that it's from the Chinese side of things? No strings attached?

And these are the first ones to steal/sabotage them . . . .

My thoughts exactly...
What's going to keep the battery stealing syndicates away from stealing those batteries?

Please tell me that the battery tech will be something like a Redflow or something, battery technology that is not so easily stolen by means of breaking in, cutting wires, all gone in 60 seconds...

China through CATL is the world leader in batteries - especially LePoFe batteries which is used for grid storage. Most battery brands have cells from either CATL, LGChem or Panasonic (or even BYD). Even Tesla uses CATL (Tesla doesn't make enough batteries to satisfy their own demand).

These companies most like use cells from CATL and LGChem and then just build the battery en electric components around it.

Foreign companies won the contracts which gives me confidence it will be on time and within budget. Both look like companies with deep experience of batteries.
