So here’s an idea - problems such as this can be solved incrementally with multiple interventions.
It’s not 2000MW or 0MW.

My immediate thought was "oh, I wonder how the kickbacks will work". Then a small sliver of hope emerged when I remembered this is Eskom procuring the batteries, not the ANC, and so far André De Ruyter has done a decent job of killing dodgy contracts so it is possible everything is above board.
I just really hope I can revisit this comment in 5 years time and not see how foolish I was

Bonus is it makes water. Maybe not so much in the karoo, but a place like durban?Why not spend in industrial scale enery storage like Compressed air or such.....
You know something that cant be carried away in a wheelbarrow.

Eskom is planning for the BESS to provide 1,440MWh of capacity, with a dispatchable generation of roughly 343MW.
This would be a better solution as they said they'd use it for 4 hours to sort out demand, but it would still only be adding in 343MW instead of you know what we need 6GW
