Sadly someone I know works for them, qualified electrical engineer, him and a bunch of other people on his level were told to vacate their offices a couple of months ago and got moved to some derilict building.

Their only requirement now is to clock in the morning and out again in the afternoon, none of them are being allocated any work or projects.

In his words they are all just sitting it out waiting for severance packages to be offered.

After reading that Africacheck article mentioned earlier, Eskom needs to have a look at cuts across the board. Upper management have time and again shown they should not be brought anywhere close to such an important institution. Granted, give the private sector a shot at running the country's power generation capacity and watch how the joint effect of capitalism and competition quickly brings the costs down and service capacity up!

It was reported earlier in the year that the group was looking to cut about 7,000 of its bloated 48,000 workforce, but was forced to back down on that suggestion as political parties and unions threatened backlash.

7000 is not nearly enough.
