Eskom is developing a crowdsourcing digital platform to help finds the skills it urgently requires to address its immense operational challenges.

The platform "will act as a skills database for Eskom to acquire additional expertise and to resolve its urgent business needs", the utility said in a statement on Friday as stage 4 load shedding continued to grip the country.

This crowdsourcing opportunity was prompted by "an overwhelming response" from organisations and individuals, including experienced engineers and technical experts, who have indicated they could potentially help Eskom to rebuild skills inside the organisation amid a critical skills shortfall.

"A diverse cross-section of South Africans have sent enquiries and made themselves available to respond to the call to national service," said Eskom CEO André de Ruyter. "Eskom is in the process of matching the skills that have already been made available to its needs and will be recruiting the suitable candidates imminently."

Since South Africa has a pool of skilled persons, Eskom said crowdsourcing of these skills may offer a unique opportunity for available and willing citizens to support the utility to resolve its business challenges.

F0kken LOL!! :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Seems Solidariteit and Afriforums' old Eskom engineers are not interested in helping them. I do not blame any of them though.

One would think that actual power-generating/-distribution skills is what is required, eg turbine operators, boilermakers, etc, etc.

And, you know that all-time favourite, Maths & Science!

:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

They are. Except the problem is they are too white for Diversity plan at Eskom.
indeed. I hear Jan and Andre had to sign an agreement not to take any more white as 2 are enough to cover for 2000 non-whites. That is disadvantage of being high IQ my man - you need to be less intelligent and less productive.

mojo - expecting a like now as your comprehension capabilities must think this is real.

shame. Have you tried the English comprehension course I suggested? DM if you need finance. I get it that you don't have money due to BEE.
Ag, dont worry. I'll just struggle along and try my best...

Skills shortfall is the funniest thing I've heard in awhile. For the past 5 years 80 percent of Eskom's vacancies have been internal only. De Ruyter is just gaslighting

So that we can continue with current Eskom no delivery and no planning? I think we might need more intelligent people, then we could have avoided the load shedding.

Its all useless unless the top management is overhauled at Eskom. Those with the skills dont want to work at Eskom due to senior managers who know nothing at all, and that is what frustrated them to leave Eskom or not to join in the first place.

Its not about low pay or work hours, people generally dont want be in a space where their capabilities can not be utlised to the best or there is vindicitive managers with low self-esteem who are obessed with their power.

Eish Calkem, I think the rot is far, far deeper than that. Too many incompetent and corrupt right through who cannot be fired (they share the loot through much of the rotten system). Then you need expertise from Eskom, contractors and specialist suppliers. Much of it has gone, the rest battle to comply with BEE and AA, often made up on the site and adding cost and time to anything contracted for. Just a single power station is a seriously complicated beast.
