Where is the gas coming from?
Is the gas imported?
Is the gas local?

If using imported gas then this plant is not a good idea considering the R/$ exchange rate.

Electricity needs to be produced using local resources - Coal, Wind, Sun, Uranium come to mind.

Interesting.
Cause eskom owns gov money and gov owes eskom money I'm sure allot gets shaved off the top. Meanwhile, it's made from our money and we will be charged to use it.

I say go ahead if it is affordable. Why should only the US and Europe be allowed to burn massive amounts of gas for energy?

So 2038/48+ in Eskom time.
i think any "end" of a project is optimistic, it will go on perpetually and be delayed due to strikes/sabotage/unlawfully awarded tenders/re-tendering process/subsequent unlawfully awarded tenders/re-tendering again.. etc.

be nice to see how many new shell corporations just got registered for this.

Reuters recently reported the government also plans to auction ten onshore blocks for shale gas exploration in the Karoo in 2024 or 2025, once legislation providing for bidding has passed.

and when they find gas and make money off of it there will be fury over people "making money off our land"

Its possible that by 2028 we will have local gas. There are a few possibilities.
That new helium plant will be generating natural gas as well.
The fracking also looks like its going ahead.
There are a few offshore options as well.
