Massive load-shedding on the cards after Eskom is denied pollution exemptions

Eskom has warned that the refusal of its applications for pollution exemptions at several of its coal-fired power stations would have a "very significant impact" on its ability to provide electricity to the country.

"If implemented, the decision will result in an immediate shutting down of 16,000MW of installed coal-fired capacity," Eskom said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ramaphosa should have instructed them to give Eskom an exemption. Period.

Of course, sooner rather than later, these coal power stations should be shut down, because Eskom cannot run them profitably.

But just how much of that installed capacity is actually working?

You can't give someone credit, if you know they're not able to pay you back. Same here, they were warned every year, for the last 2 decades.....still unable to deliver.

“This would have a significant negative impact on the economy and employment, particularly in Mpumalanga and Lephalale, and delay the country’s plans for a just energy transition toward a cleaner electricity supply.”

This makes zero sense, if anything this will accelerate the shift to cleaner energy.

ANC logic I guess.

Ramaphosa / cANCer should have made sure that the R 180 gazillion spent on Medupi included functioning scrubbers.

As for Eskom, it's all just political grandstanding as all they want is their 20%+ increase.

Looking at the list, not a lot of it, I think part of the 8GW already offline is probably from most of those.

This article is legit, take heed! Legit as I cant see any mention of the three idiots, namely Blom, Yellend and the other clown.

Real actual issues and all three are nowhere to be seen.

But fake predictions for stage 16 load shedding, then they are masters and experts.
