Eskom warns of possible weekend load-shedding after Koeberg Unit 2 gets shut down again

Eskom has warned that a cold front passing over the country and the shutdown of Koeberg Unit 2 could worsen its generating capacity constraints and require load-shedding to be implemented over the weekend.

"Eskom cautions the public that the system remains constrained and that stage 2 load-shedding might be required to be implemented at short notice during 16:00—24:00 this evening, and possibly during the evening peaks throughout the weekend," the utility said.

You’re completely right. They should have just ignored the control rod issue and not shut down the reactor as a precautionary measure. Just wing it, right? What could go wrong?
I assume that when your check engine light comes on you also ignore it and keep driving…

Can’t believe you’re actually advocating for carelessness and gross negligence at a nuclear power station.

I see he had an opinion on Eskom - which I guess he is entitled to, and I see we both agree on that

You're 100% right - Eskom are great - we've only had, what, 60 days of load shedding this year? That's only around 25% of the year, so I guess providing the country with 75% electricity demands is quite an achievement for them.

Just get some iodine tablets from Dischem in case something goes funny. I assume that by danger zone you mean fallout zone and not a theoretical blast radius of the plant.

Again you’re right. It was ****ing useless of them to tend to the rod issue. They should have just ignored it. That way they could have maybe squeezed a bit more juice out if the reactor. That way you would have certainly be happy if the outcome. Oh wait probably not. Guess whether they take nuclear safety seriously or don’t force a tripped coal unit to stay online just demonstrates just how ****ing useless they are.
