Eskom takes back threat to cut off Joburg

Eskom has withdrawn its threat to interrupt the City of Johannesburg's electricity supply over the non-payment of R4.9 billion after Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa intervened.

During a briefing on Monday, 11 November 2024, the minister explained that he was brought in to mediate the matter following complaints from City Power about its billing from Eskom.

Well as Joe Public I am expected to pay all and then raise a dispute. I believe if the shoe fits then so should CoJ/CP.

ANC intervening to protect the ANC's non compliance, in other words the norm. You get a few Rand behind and you get cut off, but the ANC can owe Billions and do as it pleases, no wonder people are actively working to bring the ANC down for good.

The Minister did well by intervening, it was not the ANC or the City that was going to suffer, it was the ordinary citizens who paid their bills but were now going to be caught in the middle of this.

100% to Dr Sputla, what he has displayed is real leadership.

Said like a real cadre.
Look people, this one is aiming for the presidency

I'm intrigued by your definition of real leadership.

All he has done is kick the can down the road. I would generally call that piss poor leadership myself.

Realising that there is more to this than just Eskom and City Power, there are people's lives at stake, people who have nothing to do with this dispute who have been paying for their electricity as required.

Coming in and trying to find a solution that works in the interest of those people is real leadership. I know you were looking forward to the drama and the political mileage out of this, it might have given you and other DA supporters some temporary satisfaction, especially since you are in KZN, but it was never going to help Joburg residents.

The same people who are moaning about his involvement are the same people who were going to moan that he just sat there and did nothing, So yes, again well done to the Minister, this is the kind of leadership we expect.

Nope, not actually looking forward to any drama, but all that has happened is kicking the can down the road regardless of how much sophistry you throw at it.

So some independent people are going to look at things, AGAIN, and come to the same conclusion that City Power owes Eskom the money.
