The end of Eskom's 100-year monopoly

The signing of the Electricity Regulation Amendment Bill marks the end of Eskom's 100-year monopoly in South Africa. Energy expert Chris Yelland says it is critical for the future of South Africa's electricity sector.

Eskom was founded by Hendrik van der Bijl in 1923 with the backing of Prime Minister Jan Smuts. At the time, it was known as the Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM).

They still have monopoly. Let's us know when most customers have moved away from Eskom.

It had two names
English / Afrikaans
The original name was Electricity Supply Commission, but the name was changed to Eskom in 1987. The South African government set up Eskom to build and maintain an electricity network. One of the highlights in Eskom's history was the creation of a national power network in the 1960s.

Yeah, got the keyring above in the 80's before it changed.

This must be a world record.

Nobody I know played Monopoly for 100 years straight.
