Eskom wants to hike electricity prices by up to 44%

Eskom has asked the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) for a 36.15% electricity tariff hike for the customers it directly supplies and charges, Daily Maverick reports.

However, customers supplied by local power utilities could be harder hit, with Eskom requesting an increase of 43.55% for these customers.

Will be cheaper to run a generator. Prices of electricity in SA has become unaffordable. Best to join all the people with their illegal connections or if Eskom was serious about getting their money! That's where they should start, paying customers are being fleece by the government for long enough.

LOL, I called it in that thread about them needing billion for transformer replacement or something like that. How are poor/middle class people affording just the basic electricity needs? Yes I know many have resorted to illegal connections.
