Eskom's costly Medupi disaster

Eskom’s grid will have to run for another two years and four months without one of the big coal-powered generation units at its Medupi Power Plant that suffered a devastating explosion in August 2021.

No expert on Eskom, but .............

Surely, when a machine is due for maintenance, there is a shut down procedure followed by a check?
Surely, an engineer or GMR2 (competent) person should be present?
Surely in this case, hydrogen cooled, there are gas detectors used during the purge / post purge?
Surely there are roof vents for possible hydrogen leaks?
Surely someone will be held responsible, and the management are accountable?

Glad these fools dont work in my industry.
We have boilers, water softeners, chillers, compressors, pressure vessels, looms, plenty rollers, ovens and explosion proof environments.
It would be a **** up of note ..........

The 'enemy' is amongst them at Eskom and even further than that:

Interview – between Dennis Davies and Andre De Ruyter

In a nutshell, Big criminal syndicates operating within Eskom. Plug one source of fraud and theft and another appears. Eskom stopped the diesel theft and then discovered R1.1BN theft of stock at one power station etc.

Coal deliveries having metal and rocks added to the loads to dilute the good coal as they are paid by weight, that damages the power stations. They employed a top forensic guy to start sorting this out. His house was shot at and he resigned.

Their hands are tied, cops release those arrested the next day on orders from SENIOR COPS. De Ruyter said he cannot fix Eskom alone. Unless the authorities and NPA actually take this on, we are going nowhere. No individual would want to put their families at risk by taking on syndicates.

Load shedding here to stay for a long time to come. At least it makes sense, what’s happening now.

SENIOR COPS - WHO'S IN CHARGE OF THEM THAT GIVES THEM THOSE instructions? Think for yourself

If this had happened in almost any other country, the procurement of parts would have happened and repairs would already be well on their way to completion (some would say that in some countries the repairs would already have been completed).

Here we are still at report completion and proposal stage.......

This piece of "news" is going around social media like wildfire....

We watched an interview with Dennis Davies and Andre du Ruyter last night, frightening. In a nutshell Big criminal syndicates operating within Eskom. Plug once source of fraud and theft and another appears. Unless the authorities and NPA actually take this on we are going nowhere. No individual would want to put their families at risk by taking on syndicates. Load shedding here to stay for a long time to come. At least it makes sense what’s happening now. PLEASE SHARE!!!!

When I asked for proof of it... I was given this from a "nephew" who works at Eskom....

Thank you Uncle. My last decade working for Eskom was full of this nonsense and one reason why I left. It is the truth! Depressing! Brings back lots of memories and frustrations and a lot of faces in my minds eye!
Have a good evening and great week. Back to Medupi tomorrow!
During stage 2 loadshedding last week Medupi, Matimba and Lethabo were doing well…the rest not good…Tutuka had only one unit on load at 450 ish MW sent out…

When you realize the people running these things, know less than a random 15 year old playing Simcity, you will start to understand how this happened.

This isnt a joke, this isnt humor, or an over-exaggeration. Im being literal.

Isn't this old news? The interview was held in June 2021?
