Eskom's 18.65% price hikes kick in

South Africa's embattled state-owned power utility raises its tariffs today, increasing electricity prices by an average of 18.65%.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) granted final approval for the increase two weeks ago, incorporating a last-minute change from Eskom.

The municipal effective date is later though

So this is april notice is normally my reminder that kicks my buying prepaid tokens into gear to stock up the meter to lock in the 18% savings on all power bought before 1july

I wonder how those prices got calculated. Maybe the energy minister slipped when they he was drawing the chart to calculate the new price?

not sure how the municipalities are regulated

as far as i have it the poorer areas are capped at 10% increase and municipalities still need to pay eskom 18.65% increase on that electricity

and they have to make it up somewhere else

so some say the effective rate of the rest will be higher to make the effective rate over all users cover the 18.65% increase

so time will tell how we get screwed over for that ie levy or higher rate
