Eskom's power generation monopoly is on its way out

South Africa's power production industry is on course for a drastic overhaul, due to the opening up to alternatives outside of Eskom, according to Rapport.

A number of key changes - permitted through recent government decisions - indicate that Eskom's monopoly on power generation is fading.
And in other news, South Australia, known for being the pariah in Oz due to historical rolling blackouts and high rates has, for an hour, last week, covered 100% of its power production with solar.

Impressive in itself, but what is more spectacular is that 77% of this power was generated by rooftop solar that feeds back into the grid.

All it takes is some government buy in to quickly fix this problem - the power generation facilities are already there!

Next is to deregulate the electricity price so that Eskom can price themselves out of the market while they keep trying to add their stupid debt recovery costs model.

As is the case in South Australia, we need for ZA Govt to streamline electricity feed in red-tape and offer tax rebates for home owners installing solar & battery.

Sales of home rooftop solar & lithium battery would take off.

There is already an asset depreciation benifit for business, but feed in has so many hurdles designed to discourage the practice that most don't bother.
