Why Eskom is fighting for a 20.5% price increase

Eskom will have to ask for more government bailouts if it does not get the "cost-reflective" 20.5% electricity tariff increase it is seeking for the next financial year.

That was the gist of the state-owned power utility's written response to a question in Parliament from IFP MP Elphas Buthelezi.

Eskom is expected to run up more debt as it adds substantial additional renewable generation capacity to the grid over the next few years.

Renewables are IPP, so the only Eskom costs are the grid.

Q. Why Eskom is fighting for a 20.5% price increase?

A. So that Eskom can pay for corruption, theft, maladministration, incompetence building Medupi and Kusile power stations.

"Eskom explained the increase was primarily driven by two factors outside of its control — increased cost for electricity purchases from independent power producers (IPPs) and higher carbon taxes."

Aag shamepies.
I'm actually for carbon taxes but the whole point is to incentivize lowering your emissions by using alternative renewable tech, not to phucking piss and moan about it all over the place while taxing your consumer base to death by just passing on the increase.

Also, 20.5%... jirre
I would bukkake myself if my employer gave me such an increase.

How much debt did they have in 1994?
So in their 1992 annual report. Not only did we have some of the cheapest power in the world, but they actually made a profit as well.

Eskom 2020.
The group recorded a net loss after tax of R18.9 billion for the year

Brace yourselves, winter is coming! Now featuring increased tariffs and less disposable income. Thanks Eskom, thanks corruption.
Better get all the insulation you can get from Builders while they still have stock and seal those gaps under the doors, between the doors and the frame and the windows or you'll be heating the great outdoors in a few months.

I mean on the other hand we'll all be paying more for everything we buy as businesses will also get a nice 20% increase. Think of the cost of running all those supermarket fridges and freezers.

How can they blame Renewable Energy sources? If it wasn't for them, we would have permanent Stage 3 to Stage 6 loadshedding and use diesel 24/7.

What do they mean shielded?

They are the cause of all the current price hikes.
Now they are shielding us, nonsense...
