Eskom website says most solar power systems in South Africa are illegal

Eskom's official page for registration of solar power systems has contradicting and confusing information which suggests the vast majority of such systems are not allowed on the power utility's network.

In recent months, Eskom has intensified its small-scale embedded generation (SSEG) registration efforts.

my solar is connected directly to my house - it is totaly isolated from eskom.

I don't use eskom for charging batteries.
I will NEVER feed back into the grid.

what's on my side of the DB is my problem - not eskoms!
what's on my roof is my problem - not eskoms!
structural integrity of my house roof is my problem - not eskoms
insurance COC is my problem - not eskoms

fokoff!!

Eskom website says most solar power systems in South Africa are "illegal"

Illegal in this case just means it's not registered.
Illegal does not mean unsafe or incorrectly installed or non compliant or theft of electricity.

Eskom has been fine with illegal and unsafe connections for many years, now they have issues with Solar.

Tip for Eskom: First sort out actual illegal connections (see picture) before going after solar.

You'd think pics like these are of the average residential solar user's connection to the grid with the way these muppets carry on.

Foeitog that's terrible.
Give them plenty of sick leave so they can get over it.

However, according to the FAQ, Eskom does not allow the connection of any hybrid SSEGs that can operate both parallel and non-parallel with the Eskom grid “by means of electronic controls”.

Just use a manual 3 way change over switch (like we had when we had petrol generator).

Position 0 - House disconnected OFF
Position 1 - House Connected to Grid Only (for when it's been raining for 3 days)
Position 2 - House Connected to Solar Only (95% of the time)

Problem solved.

R90 on TEMU.

Seems you have to "provide proof of disconnection".
Seems Eskom does not know who is connected to their grid.

So, ESKOM, please tell me what is the difference between a hybrid inverter and a UPS?
