EskomSePush – How two regular guys built one of South Africa’s favourite apps

This app isn't compatible on my cell phone for some reason. Android 7

Loved this app during load-shedding.

Please add date to the timestamp on the chat feature guys.

Love this app, and how my wife must explained to grand people how to write eskomsepush in afrikaans.

Awesome little app. Well done guys!!

This is also going to be a nice little feature

This feature allows users to converse with other EskomSePush users in their area, allowing them to ask each other for help and keep informed on what’s happening around them.

So if you do get a power cut outside of normal load shedding, you can get news from people around your neighbourhood if it is just your house or the neighbourhood that has gone down.

Haven't used the feature yet, but if its anything like Whatsapp, there will be 1000's of people confirming that power is out even though someone already sent the message, or a million thumbs up's

Great app bar the "firing up more servers" issue when load shedding hits.

Those servers cost money. The app is not monetized, so someone has to pay for hosting out of their own pockets.

It will be peanuts to host something like this for the amount of users they have.

So no revenue from ads ?

Interesting. I actually never even noticed the ads.

I don't think those ads would be enough to cover hosting though. As the app only gets any eyeballs when there is load shedding. When the grid is stable, I don't think they will make enough to warrant keeping peak hosting capacity.
