I'll drive back there, I need it for an already late birthday present for the SO.

Just hope they don't close at 12

We are closing at 1PM and have already arranged with Branch Manager and Operational guy to allow you to use the Temp account but please register your own account to avoid this as we got adverts in couple Local and National Newspapers over the next few weeks and they going to be extra strict and making sure that no end users are allowed in

This is the advert that appeared in the Sunday Times Extra today

How long does it take to get the account details? I applied 2 weeks ago, and still didn't hear anything about my account.

Sadly, no more credit card processing means no more custom from me.

I was happily shopping away when I noticed the pieces of paper stuck over the tellers this morning.. I simply put my stuff down and left. :(

Why no more credit cards Esquire?

When we working on 3-4% margin and have to pay to 2% credit card fees to the banks it just did not make economical sense any longer to accept credit cards, and to charge 2% as a levy is not allowed according to Credit Card division , So to avoid unnecessary hassles with banks we decided to stop accepting credit cards but we still accept debit cards.

:( Ah well.. I can understand that I suppose. It just puts an end to those little impulsive buys. I will have to order exactly what I want and bring the cash.. no more shopping :(

When we stopped Credit Cards in September, we though we would lose a substantial amount of business in October, but it was actually one of best month of sales, in fact better than last year October sales with Credit Cards payments, Clients do understand that working on low margins and loosing 2% to the bank is just not practical, however we added two more people in the accounts department to do EFT payment checking so that we can verify much faster , Three weeks ago I needed something in a hurry while I was in JHB and popped into a shop to purchase the item and had to wait 1 hour for them to verify my EFT payment before they released the goods , we do this in under 5 minutes in Midrand or Midrand Xpress Store and under 10 minutes if it is in the branches . Like I said in my previous post we still accepting Debit Cards

@Griz We have never had that method of payment query in 13years , I honestly cannot answer you now

Damn your LG LED screens currently on promotion are really tempting.

I think most forum members are budget focused and would use debit cards instead of cc cards. As long as you accept debit cards I'm happy.

Cant you just say that credit card payments have a minimum spend on R3000 or something like that? (clever way of getting people to spend more ;))

/only reason I use my cc is to avoid bank charges + I have a larger daily limit on my cc (wouldn't be able to buy a laptop for example with the daily limit on my debit card)...

Not accepting credit cards at the Express Shop is just not practical. If this was such a huge issue why isn't everybody else also doing the same thing?

In the past you could just walk in an buy whatever your heart desire, plus a few extra items that you saw on the shelf.

Now you are forced to go the bank to get cash if you want to buy anything over R1000, because the ATMs won't allow you to withdraw more than that per day. If you then arrive at the shop and want to buy more items than you originally planned, it will be a problem, because you will have to leave the shop, find a bank, and return with more cash.

The alternative would be to walk through the shop and decide what you want to buy, then do a Web order and pay by EFT from your cellphone or laptop while sitting outside waiting for the order to be processed - which could take an hour or more. Only problem then is that you do not have the proof of payment with you unless you have a mobile printer.

This is so not 2012 and very illogical for a company selling tech goods to take a step backwards where electronic payment is concerned.
