why cant you not use a debit card?
Not accepting credit cards at the Express Shop is just not practical. If this was such a huge issue why isn't everybody else also doing the same thing?
In the past you could just walk in an buy whatever your heart desire, plus a few extra items that you saw on the shelf.
Now you are forced to go the bank to get cash if you want to buy anything over R1000, because the ATMs won't allow you to withdraw more than that per day. If you then arrive at the shop and want to buy more items than you originally planned, it will be a problem, because you will have to leave the shop, find a bank, and return with more cash.
The alternative would be to walk through the shop and decide what you want to buy, then do a Web order and pay by EFT from your cellphone or laptop while sitting outside waiting for the order to be processed - which could take an hour or more. Only problem then is that you do not have the proof of payment with you unless you have a mobile printer.
This is so not 2012 and very illogical for a company selling tech goods to take a step backwards where electronic payment is concerned.
Esquire isn't a retailer - it is a distributor. I am sure there aren't too many distributors that accept credit cards.
Also, the limit on your ATM card can be changed - mines allows me up to R 3 000 per day.
Re the time spent waiting for an EFT to clear - Esquire mentioned that they have extra staff now, who make that wait so much shorter now
Was waiting for that question.
Contrary to popular belief, Esquire is not the centre of the universe. How can they expect customers to go through all the hassles of applying for a debit card only to be used at their store?
If they are a distributor, then they should not have an Express shop.
It is great that the EFT now clears faster, but it also takes some time to assemble the order, and that still does not solve the proof of payment issue either.
Any card debit/cheque/savings card should work as I understand it
So you are saying that the only card you have is a CC?
No, but I am thinking about other business associates I know as well who I know for a fact used a credit card to pay for items over there.
Cheque accounts will be extinct in the not too distant future, and savings accounts make no sense as they just about crossed into a negative interest percentage amount.
