87 year old who packs heat? Can she shoot the thing even?

In any case, more evidence as if more was needed that crime is out of control.

I very much doubt it was one of these but if I am wrong I will man up and apologies as I do. I bet though it was a cheapy you buy from PnP or such.

What’s up with all of your assumptions? And a “cheapy” safe? You know she’s at least a dollar millionaire, right?

"Mahlangu, who lives alone, was attacked in broad daylight at her home by an intruder who gagged her mouth with a cloth and physically assaulted her."

Why the criticsm? The poor intruder was just following Uncle Cyril's advice about protecting himself from covid when indoors.

Do proceed to provide proof of who she voted for in the meanwhile or man up and apologise if you can't.

This really shows has society has gone backwards. When the aged are targeted it is a poor reflection of our country and society. It is a sad article to read. Thankfully she will recover.

My view: Tighter border security and lower prevalence of drugs will reduce crime significantly.

Read it earlier, sad and shameful story, hope the perpetrator is found, I won't mind if the community gave him a taste of his own medicine if he's positively identified.
Normally I am not happy with vigilante justice but in this case, I hope all the worst vigilantes come out to give this oke a sincere and near-death experience

All for tighter border security. Will it assist in reducing crime, though?

Drugs, hundred percent. Also just a general seriousness in cracking down on crime and a want to punish the criminals.

I don't know. I just play an expert on MYBB.

Will make a dent in some crime, but the vast majority of low level contact crime won't change.

The only viable solution is for the government to get the fsck out of the way and to reduce corruption so that our economy can grow and we can get more people gainfully employed.
This will also make a dent in the volume of drug usage in the country, but decriminalising drugs will also be a good step towards reducing drug abuse over time.

Ideally there shouldn't be a need for this.

Ideally... So I get why people take justice in their ownr hands.

Look on the bright side, her paintings will now have a higher value.

I read a similar article yesterday, what struck me over and above the violence, was that she had a gun which the criminals took. Although I dont have a gun as yet, if you have one, you need to be able to be in position to use when needed. Otherwise, what is the point?

I hope she recovers from this traumatic event.
People get set in their ways. People are not meant to be on guard 24/7.

Like post #5, if she had a firearm and the uhm "perp" grabbed it from her then again she would be at fault.
What if she placed it on the sofa to move something outside and the uhm "perp" caught her off guard, she will still be at fault again.

Lady is 87, ****ing 87, at least she did have something to protect herself. If only she had more time then perhaps she would have been a hero today.

"She is our international icon that deserves to be protected. She deserves to be protected 24 hours a day. Her security must be strengthened before her attacker returns," Masango pleaded.
What about the rest of us? Are we not equal and similarly deserving of protection?

Also why then those of us trying to protect ourselves by building walls & hiding behind gated communities scorned upon?
