I think the article is very biased. There are reasons why this was done such as making all the illegal money worthless and preventing tax evasion. It may have short term negative consequences but in the long term looks like perfect sense especially with money becoming increasingly more digital.

The article doesn't mention all the incentives put in place to boost the economy which are already showing positive results.
