EU penalties on the cards for South Africa if it does not start ditching coal

South Africa must accelerate its transition to renewable energy to avoid export penalties being threatened by key trading partners, a government official said on Wednesday.

“We are doing this for ourselves because it is absolutely the right way to go,” said Vukile Davidson, National Treasury’s chief director of financial markets and stability.

The EU will just keep on being criticized for exporting their emissions if they don't do this.

In a lose-lose situation where hater opinion is concerned... It's a lateral win to choose the option that aligns closest with your own policies - All round a more honest and consistent approach that will serve them well.

We have been dumping wet coal all over the country - do we get any bonus points for that, Europe?!
Eskom is actually doing well in terms of cutting back on emissions because of their failure. The scrubberless battered stations is pumping mega tons of poison, and Europe takes efficiency into account. Eskom is by far the worst polluter in the world in terms of generation/pollution ratio. SA will be sanctioned and rightly so.

They have scrubbers and is moving away from coal. SA has plenty of sun while Eskom pollution is a disgrace for mankind. Sis on you SA
I heard they've been spinning up coal stations since the Russia hoohah?

When are they going to start fining themselves?

When will they be sending the alternate electricity for us to do that?
The old give me, give me for free African mentality. Sigh. Its permeated all of African society used to be just a select group not so long ago.
