Eve rox.
The gr8 thing about the game is that you don't have to grind to get anywhere.
It's more of a game of patience, smarts and determination that will make you uber in the end.

Little bout eve.
Eve is a space based mmorpg. Set in the distant future after mankind discovered a wormhole to a new area of space uninhabited by any form of sentient lifeforms. The game picks up after the wormhole that linked earth to the new area of space collapsed. This had the unfortunate effect of robbing the newly emerging colonies of any means to get infrastructure or help from earth.
What resulted was a dark period as most colonies succumbed to failing infrastructure and resources. Only a few colonies were able to fully establish themselves and from there on make their own empires.

What followed was 4 distinctly divergent empiers namely.

Amarr: imperialistic baffoons thinking their emporer is a god. They man their ships with matar slaves. You can think of them as uber romans with hair probs.
Minmatar: An emerging empire that was discovered by the amarrians when they started to expand from their initial colony. What followed was a huge campaign to enslave the matars.
Gallente: The frenchies. Their democratic an stuff.
Caldari: All for the corp mentality. Think of them as more along the lines of asian corporate culture where all you do is for the corporation.

All lin all it's a wonderful game. I've been stuck in it for the last 2 years and it has resulted in me losing disinterest with most other forms of games.

Also eve has the highest number of users in anygame on one server. Current max i think was close to 35000 ppl logged onto the server at one time.
And that's 35000 ppl that you can interact with in realtime. No sharding whatsoever. No instancing of any content.

As J_S said if your interested in meeting fellow south africans then join our conversation channel called RSAChat or you could drop me a convo sometime and i'll invite you over.

armitage:= unit01 in eve.

Thx. it's been out for a while then.

Is it like a flight sim? Can you play with a joystick or don't you really fly?

Will maybe check it out but not getting lots of time with Guild Wars in the mix as well. ;)

No joystick or WASD type controls.
Think of it more along the lines of how in guildwars u can click somewhere and your char runs there. Same works in eve.

You set your direction by double clicking in space towards the direction you want to go.

In the beginning its kinda weird but you get used to it fairly quickly.

Honestly it's also better this way cause now we za'ers can actually compete in PVP. Imagine if you had a 400+ response time in a twitch game which this would evolve into if you had joystick/mouse controls.
