Evetech insider provides insight into the tech retailer's processes

Another Ex Evetech Employee here.

Don't think that their dodgy practices are coincidental or limited to customers, they know exactly what they are doing. Employees were also treated badly during my time.

On the 20% restocking fee etc. that is a load of horse. The reason that they have such competitive prices is because they have agreements in place with manufacturers and suppliers. they get the products, motherboards, ram etc at much reduced prices due to the volume they purchase and would always get massive discounts on those already reduced prices due to the volumes. That is the reason that upgrade bundles etc are "so well" priced. The handling fee was completely unnecessary as many suppliers themselves didn't strictly apply that policy. The handling fee/ restocking fee was just another way to make a customer who already had paid for said item, pay just a bit more. Not that it actually cost Evetech anything, as mentioned they already got the stock at massively reduced prices. They could afford to have the item collected, replaced or repaired and sent back to the customer while still making sizable profits. and that they were, making sizable profits I mean.

Employees weren't treated as kings either, despite them taking most the brunt of the complaining customers. You worked 6 days a week for minimum pay despite your qualifications or experience. Wouldn't receive a pay slip or employment contact. I'm relatively certain that salaries were logged as company expenses and not actually acknowledged as salaries, you can go down the rabbit hole here, income tax that possibly wasn't payed, UIF etc. Sales guys weren't allowed to make commission on sales of walk in clients as management reasoned that the clients know what they were coming there for. This was always a hot topic as many walk in customers really didn't know what they wanted to buy. Sick leave and days off, forget it. Lunch break? you must be kidding, you eat when you aren't busy, and don't think you wont be kept busy.

Not to divulge to much. The point I'm making is that Evetech Management / Owners could care less about the customers or staff. Its all about making money, be it honestly (Haha) or through any underhanded business tactic they can apply.

Advice: Buy from another company, even if it costs a bit more. If you genuinely cannot (doubtful). Know the risk you take.

Cheers

Thanks for the insight, I will definitely stay clear of them

Maybe time that someone should tip off SARS. With what has been implied here, what are the chances they are being honest with the tax man?

support staff had to constantly remind the managers of this and the CPA regulations.

Eish...

For anyone working at ET reading this, I would tell you to walk away but if this job is putting food on your table you cant afford to leave.

Just know you are working for chodes.

Luckily another X Evetech Employee here. haha

You learn from any obstacle in life so i would say i regret those years working for them but i really do enjoy reading all this. It is good to see they are slowly but surely folding i wouldn't worry about the fact that not enough people are seeing this after all it is inevitable for them to fold one day. It's just a matter of time.

It is just sad to think what those employees are going through, in fact in the beginning of the lock down they actually worked from 7-7, 7 days a week for like two weeks. Yes even though they were not open to the public they had to work on mothers day this year and all those 60-80 hours in one week for absolutely no overtime and the worst of it all even after all that hard working loyalty they are not treated with respect at all they permanently get reminded if you don't like it then walk out the door and don't come back. In all those years i have not once heard about an employee that actually got a good offer walking away from them considering the fact that they also don't get leave at all apparently it is legal to only get 10-15 days in December and no leave through the year so when you leave..... you leave with nothing but the months salary or what ever bargain with if you are more clever than that.

So for those young ones that has been dreaming to work at the biggest computer company i'd think again. Yes they are by far still the biggest there is as one sales persons turn over can be 1.5-4.5 Mil A MONTH !! and only gets 0.5% com..... note that the 1.5-4.5 Mil is only half of what they do as that is from their personal @evetech mail, they also need to track and fix online order issues and be the admin phone line while helping in store clients all at the same time. So now you understand why the online orders are always so inconvenient because your salesman needs to sort everything out while making no money off it and really has no time for it.

And now for the conversation everyone is too afraid too "whistle"

They do cheat tax as they have personal accounts they use for business (their ABSA) so they are able to classify them selves as a small company in the mean time they have 13 salesmen pushing that 1.5-4.5 mil monthly wile maintaining the online department that makes a 100 times more than all 13 salesmen together.

Their religion doesn't believe in interest yet they charge you double where ever they can..... how ? so when you swipe with a card they charge you the " normal fee " ( not discounted) which is the 5% more ( bank card fee) and when returned they don't refund you on the card fee and when swiping again you pay another 5% even after paying the 20% handling/ re stocking fee which they then sell at like a R 100 less than the normal price on their site as open box products.

They will sell a free bag they got from the suppliers for R 5k so good entrepreneurs i guess as they know how to get the best partnership with the suppliers and break the mark by staying the cheapest yet making more money out of a product than anyone else.

They were Sahara's last client till the end when they had to get rid of their last stock.

And last but definitely not least..... They professionally break stock when knowing that the supplier won't accept the returned product. so that they are able to claim the money from the supplier.

So in all my years i have never seen a company making so much money and still wanting to collect all the scraps they possibly can from any point of view.

It was a honor working for the biggest computer company in SA it taught me a lot .... as any other situation in your life but it was most definitely not a honor working for you MR IMRAN !! it is just sad to watch the people maintaining your fortune and not only do you NOT look after them but has absolutely no respect for anyone ! treats them like trash the only time you smile is when they don't speak and weird enough mostly the times the company is actually doing better than ever. Slowly but surely you are creating a client bases with hate as well as an amazing staff team, every action has a reaction.

Good luck too you .... SIR.... but more importantly good luck too the amazingly hard working staff !! lets hope he doesn't cause kayos from this and that he actually realizes what he is doing. and how it should be done when actually respecting your people.

Thank you all for the support they do need it.

Im not sure why anyone supported them over the years, sure the pricing was decent but there were always complaints.
It sounds like things are going to be very unpleasant in those offices soon.

Yeah those pakistani owners are like leeches judging from the ex-employees. Avoid them like the plague.

I hope they get investigated for their taxes and employee salaries/basic conditions of labour act.

So, a couple of days ago I unsubscribed form their "Lekke Weekend" promo deals email.
Just got another one :cautious:
Unsubscribed again...hopefully this isn't going to become a "thing" now :cautious:

I also had to unsubscribe multiple times. Let's see what happens.

I'm also battling to unsubscribe. I've now emailed them demanding it.
If I get more spam from them I am subscribing their sales address to the vilest pedo porn mailing list I can find.

Same issue here. I've unsubscribed 3 times in the last 3 weeks and nothing happened yet. I reported them as Spam to most of the big sites.
