Hi there everyone,

Im writing up this post for two reasons, to make anybody aware of what has been going on with Evotel at my complex & because im in need of some help with this situation.

So last year the complex signed a contract with Evotel, in about October they started to lay fibre cables within the complex, all was going good and well. Evotel made it clear that the fibre would be up and running on the 1st of December, so we cut our Telkom ADSL unfortunately trusting Evotels word.

A week later Evotels IT manager came in to install the fibre to ethernet converter and router, didnt end up working, STDR's splicer had crushed the fibre cable with the wall box, 4 weeks later STDR comes in and fixes the wall box and resplices the cable. Wireless fibre was working at 10mbps this was in January this year.

Ever since January there has been some major conflict with us and Evotel and im pretty sure for alot of other home owners in the complex, endless emails & calls regarding updates on the backhaul and we keep on getting empty promises, we only got told in January that the company that was suppose to install the backhaul for Evotel "screwed them around" previously we were told other stories but i guess they thought up a good excuse now, we were told the ETA would be 4-6 weeks in February although upon requesting an update yesterday according to them they havent heard anything yet ! We only get responses from the IT manager and all other employees at the company dont reply to a single email when cc'd, straight ignoring, dont care attitude. Where's the honesty gone these days ?

If anybody has any sort of suggestions as to what direction i should take this, id highly appreciate that.

I don't know Evotel..
I do know contracts and how pressure works.

I also know of many, many situations where fibre projects are way behind delivery

So the right official way
1. The complex signed a contract with Evotel - Whoever negotiated and signed the contract from the Complex side needs to put on his big-boy pants and escalate properly with Evotel.

Even to the point of bringing in an alternative.

The problem is I would put a fair bet on the contract having zero teeth. The contract would have been drafted by Evotel and most complex managers have no clue when it comes to delivery contracts..
I bet you you could not even get someone else in... as Evotel probably have an exclusive supply agreement..
(Anyone else - If you can avoid exclusivity... avoid.. even for more money. If there must be exclusivity then have date by which if the project is not delivered you can swap. Too late for your complex
Evotel can sit back and deliver whenever... the squeakiest wheel gets the oil.

However they can demand explanations and action plans...

What can you do?

Nothing unless you stand together as residents. Get together and agree a way of pushing them across social networks etc.
(Be careful of defamation) - These fibre companies dont like bad publicity...
However if you and your mates are emailing them... they dont care

Excuse the belated reply, unfortunately not much has changed since, Vodacom have signed the contract to take over from Evotel, the person whom signed the contract in the first place is pretty useless to say the least. I cant email them myself and make a date because li

Excuse the belated reply, nothing much has changed so far, still running 10mbps on the dish, It seems that now Vodacom are taking over the contract, apparently they are also going to put us on a dish until the back haul is installed, probably another year on the dish.. The person who signed the contact is pretty useless to say the least, like you said, the only way is to stand together as residents which i shall be pursuing soon. Appreciate the help.
