A case of selective amnesia...In the 80s South Africa spent a fortune trying to oppress black people...If you could calculate the money wasted while he was in power it would amount to several billion dollars, money that could've been used more positively but instead he spent it trying to perpetuate apartheid.

When it came to wasting money he was no better than all the other African dictators...his ideology did not make any sense but he stil chose to bankroll at the expense of South Africa.

Anyone who was in Angola during the 80s could testify that money was being wasted fighting the inevitable.

Now why were black people in SA, even under apartheid, better off than their counterparts in the rest of Africa? The war in Angola was against Communism and that was a great success.

Are you serious, was the first part of your post an attempt at sarcasm? Of course black people in South Africa would relatively be better off than their counterparts from Africa since this country had the most developed/industrialised economy on the continent.

Dunno whether you know your history but the SADF's adventure in Angola was a dismal failure which cost South Africa billions and didn't make white South Africa any safer...that's unless you believed the propaganda you were fed each night at 8pm on a certain channel. Please, the SADF or white South Africa should not take undue credit for the defeat of communism...America should.

So what success are you talking about here ???.

hmmm go look up on the achievements of the military during the conflict. it was a joke especisally considering all the soviet hardware the chaps on the border had to face up to!

The military side of the "adventure" wasn't a failure, the political climate in which it was fought was, please note the difference!

O ja wars always cost billions, money wasted doesn't seem to wake politicians up during war, ask George Bush

Botha was never my fan, but let's exercise some restraint. Mandela will vrek soon and all the people cursing THIS ex-President will be crying when another lot makes true comments about Mandela.

there can't be that many negative true comments that can be said about Mandela

Exactly!!

What success are you talking about here????

You got into power only with one thing.

Hordes of blacks. Sheer numbers. Masses and masses of unskilled labour. Thats all.

Democracy in this country made numbers the victor, definately not intellectuals.

Well, every chance you get you defend the ANC and everyone/anyone affiliated to that, so what makes your defense different?

Where is apartheid being defended?? (and we're not talking about BEE apartheid:D )

Should a state funeral have been offered for the guy? His family refused. Should we have one for FW? Why not, he was the presedent.
