Hello all

Just a quick question to those that know, what happens with excess airtime at the end of a contract term?
My mother is due an upgrade end of this or next month, and she's accumulated some excess airtime during her contract period, is this lost if it's not spent before the contract is upgrades, or can it carry over, or will MTN give her credit or something of the like?

If on the same contract or a higher package you usually retain the airtime. But rather call 808, then ask for "Retentions" and there ask them. Get the name and reference number for the call incase you do lose the airtime when you sign up again.

Thanks, for the response, she's going to go to a smaller package, since she obviously doesn't use all her airtime :p
So it will likely be lost?

Your airtime will carry over. But if you cancel your contract, your airtime is gone. Note that your contract duration is renewed for further 2 years after you upgrade your phone...something to keep in mind.

If she is still under a contract, even with a downgrade, I don't see why they would take away your airtime. But rather call them to make sure.

Ah, cool cool, just asking cause my dad upgraded sometime last year, and had about R 2000 accumulated, which our local store said was void due to the upgrade, so he lost out on that.
