Johannesburg - Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has found President Cyril Ramaphosa guilty of “inadvertently misleading” Parliament and failing to declare a R500 000 donation from Bosasa boss Gavin Watson to his ANC presidential campaign in 2017. In her preliminary report submitted to Ramaphosa last Thursday - seen by Sunday Independent courtesy of one of the president’s confidants - Mkhwebane said the president violated the constitution and the executive code of ethics.

Mkhwebane added that Ramaphosa may have been involved in money-laundering since Watson’s donation had been made through several intermediaries. The complaint of money laundering and violation of the ethics code was lodged by DA leader Mmusi Maimane. EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu later filed further complaints.

The public protector’s findings indicate that the donation was transferred from Watson’s personal account into the account of Miotto Trading, a company owned by Margaret Longworth, a sister of Bosasa’s former auditor Peet Venter, and then into the CR17 Attorneys Trust Account, managed by Edelsten, Faber and Grobbler (EFG) Attorneys.

Why would one of the president’s confidants release sensitive information like this to the media?

It will give the Magashules and the Zumas of the the ANC a big stick to beat the 'new dawn' faction into a corner.

It would be interesting to hear what the DA have to say about this finding.

Opinion article published earlier this morning predicted this sort of outcome: https://www.news24.com/Columnists/G...sa-bosasa-and-the-mkhwebane-quandary-20190609
It is highly conceivable, and in fact probable, that Mkhwebane will find against Ramaphosa, particularly if she managed to obtain unseen evidence about the relationship between Ramaphosa Jr and Bosasa and what the president knew when he responded to Maimane.

It is particularly hard, I am told, to prove knowledge and intent on the part of Ramaphosa. Did he know the truth about the affidavit brandished by Maimane that day?

Only the president knows for sure. What we can safely say now, is an adverse finding against Ramaphosa will give the Magashules and the Zumas of the ANC a big stick to beat the 'new dawn' faction into a corner.

Will Magashule's skeletons, that are tumbling from the closet, cause his tenure as secretary general to be short lived, or will he outwit Ramaphosa with a little help from Mkhwebane?

Nothing is certain but this – there will be blood on the floor before it is all over.

Irrelevant. The DA lodges complaints about corruption in the government all the time. That is the job of the opposition. That is what they do. Look how many corruption complaints they laid against Zuma, minsters and the SOEs, yet the public protector never had such strong words for Zuma or his ministers.

The question is really why of all the DA complaints to the PP in the past 10 years is this the complaint with the most clearcut and quick statement from the PP.

Zuma was the ANCs head of intelligence. This is what he does. This is what he has shown he did with SARS, Hawks, all government departments and NDP. Zuma has made threats in parliament previously that he has information on people that he leaks.

On the first count, Mkhwebane found that although Maimane’s follow-up question did not meet parliamentary rules since it was not submitted to the speaker beforehand, Ramaphosa “inadvertently deliberately misled Parliament, in that he should (have) allowed himself sufficient time to research on a well-informed response”.
How is this woman a lawyer with terminology like this?

How do you "inadvertently deliberately" do something? they are polar opposite adverbs
