So Sunday morning around 5am my wife drive me to the ER. I was in so much pain I thought I was done for...

It's the 2nd time this has happened in about the space of a couple of weeks. Last time was identical story.

Woke the middle of the night with a slight, what felt like a cramp, in the middle area of my abdomen. Kinda just below where your chest bone ends. It progressively gets worse over a period of about 15 mn where it gets so sore I dont know what to do with myself. It really is excruciating.

Last time this happened, I rode it out and eventually took a buscopan because I thought it might be cramping, even though I knew it wasnt. It's a different kind of pain to cramping, and not in the right place!

So the first time, after about 25 min, the pain was GONE. It didnt go slowly, Im talking almost crying like a girl one second and then the next im 100% fine.

Same as last night. Got to the ER, got out the car and... pain totally gone.

Of course making an appointment to head to a specialist to give me a good look over. Meanwhile, anyone ever experienced something like this?

Appendicitis or Gall Stones?

Go to the hospital and get a full battery of tests done. It could be anything.

Sounds like gall stones, though IIRC they present as back pain, not front. Ulcer perhaps, with gastric reflux?

Not sure, asking a friend who has JUST had their gall bladder removed.

Kidney stone maybe?

Can't remember where the pain was centred but, as you say, relief was immediate when I supposedly "passed" it while waiting for x-rays.

Doctor reckoned it was due to overdoing vitamin C tablets and told me stick to orange juice in the future, never had a repeat bout.

Out of the 2 I would say the bold part.

Had any fatty food prior to the episodes? If it was Appendicitis it would not have gone away. And you would not be able to stand or walk.

Uncle had an issue where a part of his intestines slipped in and out of a cavity. Finally it eventually got stuck in there and the blood flow got cut off. Had to have his abdomen cut open, pull out the intestine and sow up the cavity.

Almost died.

In summary, could be anything. Tests are your friend.

Likely gall or kidney stones. You will need to go for an ultrasound scan. My husband had gallstones years ago. The attacks will keep on recurring. The op is really not bad: he was up and about in two days.

When used to get IBS it started in my back, rolled around my kidneys, etc.
Taking the tablets normally cleared up the issue in 30 minutes.
Often Buscopan could also sort the issue.

See why I think it sounds like IBS?

The pain is excruciating.

my gut feel (pun intended) is that its not IBS.

Heading to the doc this afternoon for some blood tests and whatnot.

I will post later what they find.

Hopefully its not linked to this stupid Gilbert Syndrome thing that I also have... :erm:

Go for a CT scan. They can see everything and will be able to tell you what the issue is.

SO had massive pains in his abdomen and tried to hide the pain with meds.

2 days went by, pain was still there and he had 39.6 degree fever. I took him to the hospital and after the scan found he had a Gastroenteritis and was put on 4 different drips. Took about 2 weeks for him to feel no more pain again.

The pain was so intense that he broke down in tears one night (before the hospital visit).

Rather have the tests done.
