I am considering getting an extended warranty for my car from motorvaps, but can't find much on the company and was hoping I can get some info from the forum about this company, i.e. your previous experiences

@ABCpt ... are you looking at the same company as well??
Hollard also offers this, but they have an excess of R500 per claim, while these guys do not have an excess and are cheaper (but not sure if the T&C are very different)

I looked at motorvaps, requested a quote from Motorrite and Mccarthy, but haven't received it yet. Their contact us page does not seem to link to anyone who wants to work.

Motorvaps sent me an email quote almost immediately after entering details on the website.
Mccarthy is the same as bidvest and they have stringent conditions, like service every 10000kms if not serviced at the dealer, only cover for a total of R15k or R30k while still having limits on each component, while the other guys do not have the overall limit on the policy.
Have to agree on motorite, wanted to get a quote, but no contact details, so I did not check with them :)

Have you looked at liquidcapital?? seems almost the same as motorvaps, but sightly cheaper with slightly lower benefits.
My main concern is if these guys are not legit, and when I need to claim, then somer disappear!!

Have not looked at liquidcapital. Will do a bit of homework on my side as well. Would be nice if someone with experience with any of these companies could chip in.

Liquidcapital seems almost the same as motorvaps ... but the underwriters are different, so not sure.
I did check on the underwriter for motorvaps, saxum, and so far could only find 3 hellopeter complaints on them.
Think the underwriter for liquidcapital is regent, which is more familiar, but I would rather go with motorvaps, if I can get some prior experiences that would help make my decision.

Removed my last post. False alarm. Just spoke to Saxum. Motorvaps is a product of Impac, which is a product of Russell Stone. It's all legit and Saxum hasn't had any complaints or queries about Motorvaps. Seems safe to go ahead... if you can get hold of them.

I'm insured by Saxum, and haven't had any complaints... so if motorvaps is underwritten by them then it should be all good.

Granted I don't hold the extended warranty things in high regard in the first place, but thats just a personal opinion.

thanks for the info guys.
Got to say that motorvaps does not seem very professional, but glad to hear that at least their underwriter has some good reviews :)

Read the terms and conditions, and while this is similar to Hollards Extender Plan, it has some differences:

Hollard's doesn't cover wear and tear, only resultant damage (this seems to cover Wear & Tear on the Titanium package)

Hollard's cover doesn't specify a limit on kilometres done, and covers based on package selected, while this has different vehicle categories, less than a year, less than 5 years, less than 8 years and more than 8 years, with km and coverage cost based on the qualifying plan (IMO for what I'm looking for, it has better cover than Hollard's plan, until 2015 though).

This doesn't include a service plan within the cover, while Hollard's does, and you must have your vehicle serviced without fail to claim with motorvaps (so to your account). I will get a quote on Monday and just see which I'd be paying more for, if this costs less or similar, I'll just go with Motorvaps just based on them covering wear & tear (though covered amount is very restricted).

I also felt like motorvaps provided better value than hollard.
Hollard also did have a limit on kilometres when I got a quote, but that was a while back, so mayb I am remembering wrong :)

I must double check on the service plan thing, but I do not recall a difference between that and hollard.

R11505?!?!?1 fek me... thats a chunk of change. Also, no discount for paying fully up front? thats a bit daft, if you have R11505 just waiting around, you would do better to invest it, and just pay the monthly installment from that account.

It is hefty that's forsure, I think it depends on the the brand and model as well (Hollard had quoted me around R700+ per month for a 116i) and that had 2 services per year but no wear and tear cover, with less cover per component as well! From BMW you'd be looking at 12-14k as well.:(
