If you have the option buy a better inverter, the one you bought is pretty low quality.
Cheapest one I could find:

These Axpert inverters are pretty robust. I have one install running with an Axpert since 2015 and still going strong and plenty of people on PowerForum running them too.

Re the long lead. It isn't a problem unless it has nicks and it is shorted. I assume when you plug it into power you have no problems.
Yet we have many people on this forum and an entire dedicated thread to the Mecer and have had barely any issues.

Honestly I don't care what people spend their money on. I just see a lot of people also complaining about having issues with that particular inverter and it doesn't appear to be installation related because most of them are with these trolleys. With Axperts most of the threads I see are problems caused by installation or sustained PV overvoltage.

So my honest opinion, spend a bit more and get the Axpert. They are both made by the same company anyway so it isn't like I have some kind of brand loyalty. It is purely from reliability and quality perspective.

Why are the Mecer inverters lower quality?
Had I known that I would not have bought mine 2 years ago when I did

Not really "Mecer" they are all the same company under the hood (VoltronicPower). But that specific inverter by Voltronic is like super budget. So it isn't quite as reliable as their Axpert range. My opinion ofc. and if you are spending money upfront I would buy the Axpert instead. I mean I don't know how the prices compare now, but I would assume around R2-3k difference and when compared over the life of the product I think it is worth it.

On the other hand many others have no issues with them. How long do they generally last. Last time I was on the forum I read a lot of failure happen within the first 3 or something years and then it is basically replacement time. Whereas with the Axpert many people have them 5+ years no problems, so I think the slight increase in price is justified.

Take above with pinch of salt, I'm trying to recall data here, I could be completely wrong. For all I know everyone who owns those cheaper units have been running them for 5+ years no problem.

Well my Mecer has been going neigh on 9 years now and never given a moments trouble. On it's 2 1/2 set of batteries, mainly as one of the new sets popped 6 months in, and even that was a year ago already.
Friends of mine have had theirs for awhile and never a moments trouble, think like anything the more there are out there the more "problems" there are perceived to be.

9 years (2013), holy moly. You must have been one of the first purchasers. I went early on inverter but not even I was near that early. (I think my first inverter was in 2014 or maybe very late 2013, not Axpert tho, I only got that in 2015. Before that was using APC UPS but just to shutdown)

Well it was a friends. he bought it in 2013 and used it to power things in his garage with a set of 100ah batteries he got from a server room. It was used 24/7 until he needed to get a pure sine wave for some tool or something and I lived in an area that had constant outages, this would've been about 2014ish. So I've only had them since the middle to end of 2014 and those batteries lasted me till the start of 2020.
