Hi folks

I am glad to inform you that an extension until Friday 21 January has been granted for feedback regarding the ADSL service. Please get yours in if you did not already email it. Also please consider giving an ‘oral representation’…from ICASA:

“I can give only up to Friday . I am inundated as it is. Most of your members do not want to make oral representation. Please assure that they will have our protection and that it is important that their voices are heard on this matter.”

Thanks and regards,

RPM

Oral Presentation

RPM / All

An oral presentation will be where the hearts and minds of ICASA will be won. Perhaps, it would be more effective if we co-ordinate our efforts to produce a winning presentation.

i.e.

(1) decide on sections to be covered (i.e. high costs, etc.)
(2) put together a skeleton powerpoint presentation
(3) allocate owners to various sections
(4) incorporate feedback from myadsl member community
(5) nominate speakers for various sections

your views?

Hi JamieB

Good ideas! Even if we have a few shorter presentations from a few guys it is better than one long one by only one person.

I will be making an oral presentation, but I think they are definitely looking for more of us in this regard. While I might be speaking for a thousand people, it is still only one presentation. If all the other presentations are only positive I think it will be hard to convince ICASA that something is wrong. If any of you therefore see your way clear to make a presentation please email Diane at ICASA and let her know.

Regards,

RPM

Presentation.

Hello IC.

Where do you live? Town or suburb. PM me if you want to remain anon.
RPM is definitely going to go.
Trying to place you in my mind, so perhaps RPM closer to the time can call on a few people to help.

We have noticed that you have become a valuable contributing member of MyADSL.

Over 1000 posts.
Impressive.

I'll be happy to help out where possible, but since I've only justed recently returned from a 5 year stint overseas, my knowledge of the local scene is limited.

However, my overall point is that if there are going to be multiple speakers, then it will be far more effective if the presentations were co-ordinated. Otherwise, there will be material overlap it will likely be less effective.

Suggestion: Why don't you inform ICASA that you will provide them with a list of speakers? That way, the mybroadband community will appear unified and ensure that the speakers collaborate.

Another Suggestion: Create a new thread where all those who provided feedback to ICASA can post their response. This will hopefully facilitate open debate on the issues and assist the speakers to formulate a unified standing.

J

Hi guys!

I did indicate that I would be willing to speak. I think the more of us do so, the better. Please step up, for the time to talk is here...

Cheers
Ant

Why have they decided to extend the adsl feedback?
I think it's a good sign, maybe they do care about what we think

Why

Why have they decided to extend the adsl feedback?

Because the dates cut it very fine with all the holiday makers.
As far as I can see many people have only returned from their XMas and New Years break in the last few days.
The Gazette was published on the 17th of December and one month was given for feedback.
Basically the month everyone is on leave. Builders, teachers etc.

The reason why I didn't include myself to do a public presentation is because my public speaking skills are non existant and I would think the public hearings would be held in Joburg and not Cape Town. :( If they were in Cape Town, I would come along and support indeed.

Will be doing a presentation

Hi RPM

I've PMed you. I am willing to make the trip to Joburg to give a presentation.
Essentially I'm going to compile a basic case study of how much it costs Telkom to setup an exchange for DSL...I'm going to pull some strings with a few connections I have within Telkom, as well as canvas a few local ISPs for input...

The idea is to show how much profit Telkom makes on the line rental alone, and then nail them to the wall with the evidence!

On this, if anyone can provide me with REFERENCED (ie. web url, magazine article, hard copy smuggled out of Telkom - not hearsay!) data pertaining to costs of DSLAMs, case studies of rollout costs in other countries, Telkom exchange technician salaries and productivity etc...please email or PM me.

Hi Lewstherin

Your idea sounds excellent and should raise a few eyebrows! Antowan and I will also be making presentations so the list is growing! The more of us the better, especially if you tackle the pressing issue of cost!

RPM

Hi Alchamy

Great news! Please email Dianne (ICASA) and confirm this. They are in charge of all the presentations, program etc.

RPM

Hi Decotey

It will now take some time for them to compile the reports etc. I will try to get a time frame for them about all future procedures…

Good day dear friends,

Would it be out of step to ask that those who have not managed to send their feedback before the end of the deadline to send the feedback anyway? I would like RPM to reply to this message here before any such action is taken. It can either be a good thing as long as the late feedback caries the necessary apologies. My logic tells me that the more communication there is between the members of MyADSL and ICASA the better, even if it is not formal correspondence for set projects that ICASA is working on.

RPM is however the one who is in touch with them and would be better able to guage their mood and how they would receive such communication.

RPM?

Cheers
Ant

Hi Antowan

Additional communication with ICASA can be of value, but not specifically regarding this complaint (we don’t want to overload Dianne…she must get on with it now). If people send complaints to the standard ICASA address it will filter down to the right per son anyway (we hope) and can have an impact on their decisions… Usually Telkom must also respond to such complaints which is not bad…

Regards,

RPM
