Hi

Are most external CD / DVD writers compatible with Mac?
I have partitioned my Harddisk to run OSX on the one side and XP on the other.

Will it run on both Operating systems?

Secondly can you kindly suggest a cheap and good
External CD writer that can connect via USB or Fire Wire?

Thank you in advance:D

All externals will work with Mac.
Yes will work on both OS's.
Shop around for prices - Makro/IC/Take2 etc

Why not get the internal one fixed? Might cost a little more but it's going to be much more convenient.

Not really. LG IDE drives will not. And LG IDEs are the only IDE drives that are readily available. So, it is important to get a SATA drive. Matrix sells this (http://www.vantecusa.com/front/product/view_detail/393) drive adaptor that might help connect a SATA 5.25 to USB for R300. If you buy a ready-made external, first test writing to all formats (ISO, HFS+ and UDF) before settling with it.

Oh, and be sure to post your result so that any one else looking for a similar answer can find something definitive.

I've been using a LG external CD/DVD drive now for about 3 years on both my iMac and Macbook.

Hi, I use an IOMEGA external drive and it works fine, even got Mac software with it, but the drives a bit old now, think it is plus minus 6 years old.

Which one? The 22A onwards are the problematic models.

I also have an IOMEGA - also about 6 years old. The Super DVD that came with Claris Discribe. Rubbish software that - I prefer Liquid CD.
