I am wanting some advice. I have just been capped and have a lot of stuff I want to download. What would happen if I buy a 1gig account from somewhere and just download as much as I can in 24 hours? +- 2gigs i guess.

If you buy the prepaid from Web Africa you won't be able to do more than the 1gb as they track live. I don't know about the other ones.

Also had some downtime this afternoon - then you sit and wonder - have I been capped - or has some techie simply pulled the plug at the exchange... then be thinking webafrica... but of course no connectivity - so can't go sign up online (do they take phone orders?) - (makes note to investigate.)

... but seems the techie plugged me back in... and here be I :D

this capping thing is a totally ludicrous pain in the butt - we try make our lives simpler - not more complicated - bozos - then they have the balls to cost a fortune - plus a line fee... Telkoms approach: buy another account; um, no rollover etc... I mean - how ripped off can a person be??!

Only in SA. :(

@Blode: capped 2 days before month end - how much does that suck?

Interesting.

Yeah, i knew id be capped because I would have gone over my 4gigs like 2minutes after i connected. But I was expecting a nice 24 hours of downloading :(

Thats odd, because I currently have a saix account and they only count usage on disconnect. On average I manage to get 6-7gigs a month out of my 4gig cap, and they never charge us more? Is somebody paying for this? I always thought it was just chowing bandwidth from Telkom or something, if my poor ISP is fitting the bill then I must stop!

I think I will just get the openweb 1gig international and 30gig local account for the next two days because yes, capped even for 1 day of the month SUCKS!

If your ISP isnt TelkomInternet, yes they are paying for the gigs, and I cant imagine them not asking money from you for it, but yeah Telkom charge the ISPs per gig and if you buy 3GB, and their system only cap you at 6GB because of the 24/7 resets, they will get charged another ~R50x3

Open to correction, and i know that per gig charge is different but thats the main idea.

That is such total BS it's not even funny! How can you charge someone more an error on your stupid system, well I guess it is Telkom. Maybe IS are a bit more forgiving :/

****, well I know my ISP uses SAIX as I have a @telkomadsletc dns or whatever its called. And they are quite small so im guessing they havnt noticed yet. Im gonna stick to my 4gigs from now on though, didnt know they had to pay for it. I reckon ill just get an IS account to do some local and international downloading :)

Try Webafrica as suggested by Pearljam. You'll be better off as the cap carrieis over, and it's R70 a gig, no need for contracts etc.

lol, thats not how it works!

Your ISP pays 4 everything yes, but here is how it works:
BigISP buys 200 000 TB of bandwidth...at wholesale in the +-R50 per GB price range.

Lets say that they can sell X number of accounts with this data....what they then do is, they sell +-2 times that figure! They oversell IOW. Now, there is allot of people that goes to BigISP and buys a 4GB account. But some of these people only use like less than 1GB of data. Now this rest of the 3GB goes into a pool that you now can use. If it is not used, BigISP loses this 3GB. Use your connection till it dies, that’s my policy. I’m not going to checkup on my data usage in real time and stop at my allotted 4GB,no way

^Reading this again i realize, im not making sense....
