Even with the most feasible technology - the starship used in Avatar(Not kidding, Cameron hired some NASA engineers to design it) - Travel time would take 25 years and require Antimatter and a Terrawat Laser array around Mercury.
We could say hi and hope someone is listening and can say hello back before we've reached retirement age.

If people are willing to do a suicide mission to Mars, I'm sure there'll be plenty of volunteers to head off to the first world that has the potential for life. Can't imagine us ever having the luxury of directing such vast amounts of resources to exploration and first contact missions. We have a lot of **** to clear out the way first. Too much squabbling here on terra firma. Seems almost more insurmountable a task than getting ships out the solar system.
