7202gr2

Hi ADSLMac

Yes the Billion 7202GR2 is Telkom compatible. If you want you can drop them a mail at support@billionsa.com and they will tell you a little bit more about the router and the functions that goes with it. I have one of them at home and never had any problems with it. Also got wirless wich is a plus point and the support on the Billion products are excelent.

I've also got the 7202GR2 and am struggling to make the wireless work consistently!

Basically, with my laptop downstairs, when I view available wireless networks, I can see the network with 4/5 bars or whatever, "very good connection, etc" and I can connect to it, but after trying to access the network neighbourhood it disconnects me from the network and says "unable to connect to wireless network". It's driving me absolutely crazy.

I can get it to work when it's right next to the router though, but even then it's inexplicably unreliable!

Ah, so I'm not the only one with this problem. My wife's PC in the NEXT ROOM sometimes continually connects and disconnects (although that may be a problem with the Netgear PCI card)

And after half an hour or so, the router just forgets all the pc's names, and doesn't know where to send or how to resolve anything. Very frustrating

F/W upgrade

Hi People

Please will everybody that has problems with their wireless go to the www.billionsa.com site and download the 1.09 F/W for the 7202G and
7202GR2. Upload this F/W, hard reset and try it again.

I got the update and it's working flawlessly, I'm so pleased by this, thank you! I only wish I found out about it earlier.

Ah, this is great, I'm in my room downstairs and can access the internet perfectly while lying in bed, awesome! Yeah!

The link to the new firmware for the 5102S is invalid. Can you sort this out?

I have the 7202 router (F/W = 1.07) and have had the problems some of you describe in the past, notably dropping wireless connections and router lockups.

Firstly, the flaky wireless link problem is almost exclusively because of the wireless cards used in the client machines. I tried 3 different wireless cards, namely a DLink card (terrible, low signal even when PC right next to router), Netgear card (bad, constant link dropping), Mecer PCI 802.11G (okay, drivers difficult to find, but link more stable) and finally settled on a Gigabyte WP01GS card, which works flawlessly (the installation is also a breeze, unlike all of these other cards). I guess some wireless chipset vendor's interpretation of the wireless standards end up not being "totally" compatible.

Another thing to try, if you haven't already, is just try relocating the router to a different area - sometimes interference from other devices can cause interesting results.

Been trying out the router with my wireless card for the last 20 minutes. Through 2 thick wooden doors, the router is about 10 metres away and im getting about 50% signal in the utility im using or 2-4 bars in Windows. Is that good or bad? I haven't played with the positioning of the router yet..

Get the new firmware!

It was like the difference of light and day for me! It was barely working at all before and now it's flawless and I'm sitting downstairs through a concrete ceiling.

Drat. I'm having the same grief with the Netgear in my wife's PC. Thanks for listing an alternative :)

Just got my 7202GR2 today, no ADSL line yet but am just using it for wireless network to my laptop.

I was also having problems the whole day keeping a connection. I updated the firmware, did a reset by pushing the button on the back, and I noticed it seemed a bit better.

But right now I am about a meter from the router and the connection speed keeps going below 54Mbps, it is now on 36Mbps.. I don't even wanna try with my laptop 10 meters away.. :(
