I thought this is a good time to start with a new thread for the 2013 season.

To end off 2012, here's a link to Michael Schumacher's Hall of Fame page at Formula1.com:

Here's an unofficial highlights video of the 2012 season. Hopefully the official formula1.com version will be out soon:

Here's a link to the confirmed drivers for 2013:

Still waiting to hear who Kimi's teammate at Renault will be.

Same here. Would have felt a lot better if we signed Hulkenberg instead.

Just hoping for the best from Button, hopefully he get's his balance right this season.

At the Race of Champions on Sunday, Schumacher got knocked out in the semi.
The interviewer asked him "What next for you ?"
He calmly replied "Christmas" and walked away.

Lewis os gonna have a massive challenge in the Merc, McLaren might have a champion in Perez, he really does have the talent but has to be the professional that will come with being with McLaren.

Hoping for Kimi to take it.

OR, SebVet or MW to get injured and Schumi to show them a thing or 2 in a fast car.

Just noticed now that Grosjean has been confirmed as Kimi's teammate at Lotus. I wonder who/what Lotus were waiting for? Did they have someone else in mind (who?) or did they have some other issue?

I would imagine during the actual f1 season they are more concerned about the gp's than they are about their drivers for the following season. End of season they would start weighing up their options and that is how it went.

Grosjean did fine, he drove well and poorly but he has the talent. much like mclaren stuck with hamilton when he went on his crash season i am sure they understand drivers have those seasons where they crash into everyone :D.

I agree. Grosjean had the pace but had a few brain sprain moments. My question was more along the lines of did Lotus actually have someone else in mind or delaying the announcement had no hidden meaning accept that Lotus had more important things to worry about. If they did have someone else in mind, I'm sure it wasn't Piquet. :D

I think McLaren missed a treat in not signing Hulkenberg instead.
As a fan of Fingerboy, I won't mind him winning again, but I think if Ferrari can give Alonso a quicker machine, 2013 could be his for the taking.

But personally, I would love to see the Iceman take it again.

No ways, perez has proven he has the raw pace. People can talk about conditions and blah blah but looks a world champion in the making. Made a few errors but he is only 20. If you he can show the form he did with a crap car in a good car you are looking at a world champion.

Give him a pole or race winning car and you will see his talent. Mclaren are not stupid, they have taken on a world champion in the making. Redbull did it with vettel, mclaren did the same with hamilton. Sergio perez given a good car will fight for the world championship and perhaps win it.

Only time will tell if they made the right choice.
As you pointed out, he is still a youngster.

I await the new season with bated breath, come what may.

2013 to the Ham in a Merc :)

in other news... is 2013 Bernie's year of reckoning?
Hard to remember the sport without his involvement in some way

Bernie Ecclestone has admitted that he would likely be removed from his role as Formula 1 supremo if he faces further action over the Gerhard Gribkowsky bribery case.

Ecclestone is still awaiting news from German prosecutors over whether or not they intend to charge him amid allegations that he paid a bribe to Gribkoswky over the sale of F1 to CVC in 2006.

Gribkowsky has already been jailed for his part in the affair.

Although Ecclestone is adamant that a 45 million Euro payment he made to Gribkowsky was not bribery, German prosecutors are still investigating if there are corruption charges to answer.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Ecclestone has conceded for the first time that if further action is taken against him then his running of F1 would likely come to an end.

Speaking about what CVC would do if he was charged, Ecclestone said: "[It] will probably be forced to get rid of me if the Germans come after me. It's pretty obvious, if I'm locked up."

CVC has already been pondering a succession plan for what happens when Ecclestone is no longer in charge, but the man himself does not believe its actions are cause to feel that it is looking to ease him out.

"They said they had hired a head-hunter to find somebody in the event that I was not going to be there - if I was going to die or something. It is the normal thing they do to keep people happy," he said.

Ecclestone's comments about his future come just a few weeks after Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo suggested that change would be needed if German prosecutors acted.

"First of all, I hope for Bernie and F1 that nothing will happen," said di Montezemolo during a pre-Christmas media lunch. "If Bernie is accused under process I think he will be the first to give a step back in the interests of Formula 1. This could be bad for F1."

Di Montezemolo reckoned that the time had come for new younger management to take over the running of F1, so it could build a stronger future.

"We need people with a more modern view. It is the same in my company. In a couple of years I will no longer be the person for Ferrari. Someone else will come.

"What I always say to Bernie is that the one-man show in life is finished. You need a team around you. We have to ask these questions in a positive way and look ahead. Sooner or later it will happen to Bernie as to me."
